In Texas if you come onto a citizen's property, being their home, their car, or their business and have broken in or are trespassing or intending to commit robbery - citizens of TEXAS can shoot you DEAD with complete immunity from all criminal charges, and complete immunity from any lawsuit or civil claim.

My advice to you - do not trespass or try to break into a car or business or home in TEXAS as you could very well be killed.

I sleep with an assault rifle under my bed and if someone breaks into my house at night 30 rounds of 5.56 NATO MILITARY ISSUED PENETRATOR are going at that person at 3,400 feet per second as fast as the gun will fire.

Although I would never do the following personally - case law in Texas has shown the CASTLE DOCTRINE even extends to your neighbor's home, so if your neighbors house gets robbed and you see them running away you can shoot them in the back and get NO charges and have COMPLETE immunity. I would not do this personally as it is too extreme but Google the "Horn Texas Castle Law Case" for proof.

TOO BAD THE TRAGEDY IN THIS MOVIE WAS COMPLETEY PREVENTABLE. IN TEXAS THE POOR HUSBAND WOULD HAVE BEEN A HERO!!!! INSTEAD OF JAILTIME HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CELEBRATED!!! THE HUSBAND WAS A HERO - SAN FRANCISCO DESTROYED HIS FAMILY AND BRUTALIZED HIM FOR TRYING TO FEND OFF AN ILLEGAL INVADER.

TOO BAD FOR THE POOR PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE FASCIST SOCIALIST STATES OF CALIFORNIA, ILLINOIS, NEW YORK ETC. -- IF YOU LIVE IN AN OBAMA/PELOSI BANKRUPT STATE YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND WILL GO TO JAIL IF YOU TRY. THE CRIMINAL IS MORE VALUED THAN YOU. THE ILLEGAL IS MORE VALUED THAN YOU. YOUR FAMILY IS NOT SAFE AND IF YOU TRY TO STOP THE ILLEGAL CRIMINAL FROM RAPING YOUR DAUGHTER IN YOUR HOME AND ROBBING YOUR HOME YOU WILL GO TO JAIL. THE 20% FAR LEFT LIBERALS ARE INSANE.

Liberals we are not going to pay your bills for your Union Mafia jobs where a city dockworker gets $200,000.00 a year and retires with full salary after 20 years. You will be forced to go bankrupt and you will face the consequences of what you have done.

Lets get rid of Obama Pelosi and bring in people like Mitt Romney - we need to side stronger with Israel too and help them stop Iran.

I love your post and totally agree w/EVERYTHING you have said..Its piss ass poor that you can't protect your family -- instead they sympathize w/the trespasser and/or thief who is trying to do harm to your family! What kind of *beep* up world are we living in...I agree Obama needs to go -- we got rid of Pelosi, its time for another President-- still waiting for that "change" Obama! Yeah right don't hold your breath, he just likes to hear himself talk...

I live in Texas and have a CHL and I suggest a little less yahooism in regard to Castle Doctrine law. I recommend reading the articles of Ayoob and a book by Chris Bird titled Manual of Concealed Handgun (or something like that). In short, you can be pretty much in the right and likely to be no billed or at most aquitted if it goes to trial but you may very well be initially arrested (and overnight it with some tattooed brutes) and be out some very serious bucks before it's finally settled. I would not recommend shooting anyone unless there is no other option and I certainly wouldn't shoot someone running away in my front yard (likr Porter did in the movie). You can bet when the police arrive and you're the one standing with a warm gun they are not going to be your friends.

You live in a fantasy land. The cops will arrest you because the other guy is dead and you killed him--you're the one standing with a gun in hand. Likely you will get off but not before you are out lawyer fees and doctor bills (after all the illegals in jail have had their fun with you).
Of coure if the prosecutor sees any of these messages, and they just might when they take a look at your computer,they will assume you were hoping for the chance to blow someone away. In this case you may be in jail for a long time.
I would advise you to read up on personal defense issues in case you do have to defend yourself some day.
Take a CHL class and learn a little about what even a justified shooting of someone involves.

I agree with the OP. I will NEVER move away from Texas based on our laws on crime alone. Sometimes I wish Texas could be it's own country so all these killers can hang quickly instead of writing books and smiling on TV!

Too bad Texas is hot as hell though. I was there last week and the second I stepped out of my car my forehead was on fire. I also had to keep the air conditioner on full blast the whole time. Plus the interstate is crazy, you have about 100 exits every 10 miles with cars coming off the ramps doing 90 mph. Democrats and Republicans suck in their own ways. I don't like all of the liberal rules and I do not like the conservative mindset to make billionaires richer while everyone else suffers.
