Just saw it tonight. Way better than I expected it to be!

Really haven't enjoyed anything Smith has done lately, but I love Clerks 1 and 2 so I figured I at least give this a shot and boy I'm glad I did. So fucking great. Not as good as Clerks 1, but better than 2 IMO. Very funny, but also surprisngly emotional which I was not expecting at all. I spent the last third of the movie teary eyed until the credits rolled. It really is a near perfect end to the franchise even though it wasn't the one I was expecting.

I loved his first 4 films, after that they've been uneven. I think Clerks 2 was the best of his post-Dogma films, but I like Clerks 3 at least as much. There were several moments that had me near tears, which I didn't see coming from a Kevin Smith film.

My only gripe is with the theater-- they mixed up the rooms, so despite the ticket saying "theater 7" and the sign over theater 7 saying "Clerks III," the film played in theater 9, so we all missed the opening. When we got into theater 9, Randall was just getting to the hospital. What did I miss? Did we learn that Dante's wife and child had died, or was his flashback to him following another bed into the ER the only clue?

reply

The only thing besides the ER flashback with Becky than hints she died is that during the opening credits we see a picture behind the counter with her and the date showing she passed away in 2006

We didn't have a theater mix up, but it was weird because right at 7PM, they dimmed the lights but instead of the movie starting we got a Fathom Events screen with a countdown for another 30 minutes. After 10 minutes they started showing ad's for other Fathom Events stuff and the movie finally started around 7:15. One thing that bugged me though was a small part of the top of the screen was cropped out, but Idk if that was the theater or Fathom Events doing a shitty job.

Thanks. It's nice knowing that Smith was subtle in how he revealed it, but gave enough info that I immediately realized what had happened.

Cinemark, where I saw it last night, shows pretty much exactly 25 minutes of trailers and ads before films. For whatever reason, last night not only did they start playing DC League of Super-Pets in the cinema marked "Clerks III," but when we got into the correct cinema, despite it only being 12 minutes past showtime, the movie was already up to the Randall in the hospital scene. It's like, great the ONE time you don't waste 25 minutes of our time is the time you put is in the wrong room. On the way out they gave everyone a free movie pass, but I'd rather have seen the entire film.

Yeah that's annoying. I don't go to a lot of Fathom Events, but I've heard stories about theaters having troubles with them and sometimes ended up cancelling the showings due to difficulties.

It was worse than I expected, and I liked Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

reply

Don't know how. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot wasn't very good.

reply

At least Jay and Silent Bob Reboot didn't kill off characters unnecessarily just to create drama. The Ben Affleck Chasing Amy scene towards the end was better drama than anything in Clerks 3. And while Jay and Silent Bob Reboot did rehash jokes from Strike Back, they at least put a different spin on them unlike Clerks 3.
