Would've been better if...
At the end of the movie, it turns out Walter stashed some of the money in the tunnels. And he didn't want a ride home from the mayor because he wanted to take the subway and retrieve said money. He did admit to the bribe and I thought it would've been a good ending to have it parallel that bribe by stashing money.
