New international trailer: Now THAT'S more like it.

Have a look at the new international trailer that debuted yesterday:

All I can say is: now THAT'S more like it. More gentle British wit, more faithfulness to Paddington's character.

Yes, there's some slapstick, but face it...the books had more than their share of that too.

And finally we get a glimpse of Peter Capaldi's Mr. Curry! (Seems to be keeping his natural Scottish accent.) Looks like he is, indeed, trying to help the villain...but I still predict that he's not aware of what she's really out to do. No matter how unpleasant he could be, he never would have wanted Paddington DEAD. (Besides, that would bar the character from further sequels. Trying to KILL our hero is not something there's any going back from.) I think they're paving the way for a My God What Have I Done moment.

Anyway...looks far more promising than the previous one did!

Definitely, I think it was a mistake to show the now infamous 'ear wax' scene in the initial trailer, it looks as though most of the film is going to be sticking far closer to the tone and humour style of the original stories. The charm is certainly there as well, the relationship between Paddington and the Brown family seems spot on, and will hopefully be the main focus of the film. Paddington's voice is perfect, a lot like how I used to imagine him sounding, and he has just the right amount of politeness and charm about him ('Mr.Brown! That is extremely rude!' (righteously drinks from tea pot)).

I'm fine with the slapstick, the books always handled it really well and managed to make it very charming, mostly due to Paddington's sheer innocence and naivete through it all.

Peter Capaldi is the perfect choice for Mr.Curry, I agree that he almost certainly wont be made into an outright villain, he'll probably be depicted as merely misguided, and will likely apologise and make peace with Paddington towards the end (while still being a bit of a jerk). The whole taxidermist plot sounds a little removed from the tone of the stories, which never really had a real villain from what what I remember, but I guess they need to add some more conflict and plot for a full length film.
