I've seen just north of 110 films at the cinema this year..

... And I would never have anticipated Paddington would be one of the best of 2014. Especially as some have dubbed other English telly adaptations Postman Pat, Mrs Brown's Boys, Keith Lemon and The Harry Hill Movie as the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
The kids loved the bear's misshaps while the adults were given a sharp script peppered with subtle satire and entirely appropriate film references. The cast is generally excellent with note perfect performances; full of recognisable faces from the best of current UK TV and film. Everyone from Julie Walters and Doctor Who to the Facejacker himself and the leads from Sightseers were in there. Even Michael Bond turned up. Detractors have dismissed Kidman as either being too pantomime or not pantomime enough. She could easily have been a carbon copy of Cruella De Vil. Both characters have intentions that are perhaps too disturbing for the very small children but there were no walkouts or upset wee ones. We did have one ass clown checking Sky sports every twenty minutes on his phone because he was probably busy gambling his kids future education away but as he sparked up a cigarette in front of them immediately upon leaving I figured nature would catch up with the classy guy eventually so I left him to it.
Anyways, highly recommend it for kids of all ages and a very welcome watch for movie fans.

Agree with your take on the film. I enjoyed it more than I really expected to. I thought Julie Walters might have been better sticking with her Midlands accent, but that is a very minor gripe because she was as wonderful as always. I enjoyed all the performances. I laughed throughout and was even very moved several times. I thought Kidman created a wonderfully hissable villain and Paddington was a beautifully realised, fully believable bear. Loved the film.

Walters could easily have reprised her role from Acorn Antiques and I'd have had no complaints. From what I gather Kidman had some of her role reduced as it was deemed to scary for the wee ones. I'm not expecting an unrated DVD though with added knife twirling.
Glad you liked it anyway, I'd be mildly concerned the trailer might put some people off (some on here seem to have a dim view on slapstick, no matter how well handled).

Over 100 films at the cinema this year?! I freaking envy you, man.

Yeah I think last year's tally was 119. Having a Cineworld card helps, otherwise it'd be very expensive. Work, cinema, gym. You can get quite a bit done when you're single!

Ha ha, I was just about to say "You must be single" before I read that. My film watching went from about the same ratio of yours when I was single to about 50 a year when I got married, then down to about 10 a year when my son was a baby and now he's a few years older, I see the odd children's film here and there and that's about it.
I used to be able to tell you all about the premise of whatever was on at the cinema in any given week, and who was in those films, but now I look at a list of films that were released this year and have never heard of around 95% of them!

I've been a fool but you know I wouldn't kill for you...

Well I would say I have all of that to look forward to but as I have an exceptionally high (double) standard, and the fact I'm still furious with my lying, cheating ex; I'm sort of resigned to thinking I'm likely to die alone. And have an irrational hatred of Norwegians for the foreseeable future. So I may as well get in as many films as possible in the meantime.
