Timeless,a bit scary for younger kids, but great fun

We saw a preview this morning and both my wife and I loved it. It was a darker story line than I expected, but still very entertaining. The kids (3 and 5) enjoyed it but my eldest did keep saying "it's a bit sad, isn't it?" - because yes, it was a bit of a sad tale in parts.

I did like the comparison between Paddington's arrival in London and the kindertransports

Anyway, feel free to ask questions!

Not the OP but I can answer since I've seen the film yesterday: She's great. Haven't seen her this lively in a couple of years, she really seems to enjoy being evil.

how much would you rate this movie? how was nicole kidman in it?

reply

Nicole was great in it. Nothing like Cruella if i'm honest. She stood out on her own. I'm going to stuff you bear! Check it out!

very glad to hear this, nicole kidman is my favorite actress

I am 34. I went to see it alone as I just enjoy films in general and I like Paddington. Loved this film to bits. Nobody hogged the screen, all the actors did a great job and the bear himself is absolutely adorable/cute. Glad I saw this as an adult as Nicole Kidman's character would've scared the life out of me as a little one! I laughed, I cried and Millicent, even now, spooked me a bit! A cartoon-to-CGI adaptation that has worked for me.

I'm 27 and can't agree with you more! Great, adorable film :)

8/10

Saw it with my 13 year old. Absolutely loved it. Parts are a tad scary for little ones and also pretty sad. I've always loved Paddington (having lived in Peru when I was young I was teased about marmalade sandwiches on my return!) and I think some of the themes in the film run true to the books. Nicole Kidman is fantastic as a baddie and ever so slightly sinister! Some of it is darker than expected but there are some hilarious moments too. Great cameo roles from some of the cast of "Sorry I've Got No Head" also.

Maybe a little scary for the younger kids but we didn't think it was too bad.

I took a 5, 6, and 7 year-old and they loved it! There were a few moments the little one was a bit scared, but I just reassured her. Now, she wants the Paddington Bear! This should have been released earlier.

yeah agree. My 5 year old switched off a bit from the point at which Paddington decided he'd leave the Browns' and look for the explorer.

It did get unexpectedly dark (and not just because it was a rainy night in the movie) from that point.

Not quite the movie I was expecting, bit sad, bit scary, slightly annoyed at the immigration message, but overall decent enough.

Uh, what immigration message?

Which part is scary? Cartoon characters are threatened with death all day around.
