All the movies Paddington resembles - incl. Edward Scissorhands

I saw such a strong resemblance to Edward Scissorhands in Paddington. A strange protagonist has a backstory that is marred by tragedy (Inventor dies before completing Edward, Paddington's uncle is presumed dead from earthquake)is taken in by a kindly mother and the rest of her family, including the skeptical husband. He charms the kids and eventually the rest of the community. Paddington / Edward cause lots of havoc at the house with everyday basic items (pillows, bathtub, water mattress, scotch tape) There is a bad guy after him, etc....

Also Short Circuit 2 - non-human character longs to fit into human society, both movies are allegories for the immigrant experience.

And Ted! Nicole Kidman's agenda reminded me of Giovanni Ribisi's plan to capture Ted as a valuable souvenir.

Babar - animal from the wild makes the transition to city life by living with kindly humans who teach him how to be sophisticated. Isn't Babar basically like the French Paddington?

What other ones can you think of?
Every fish-out-of-water story ever?

I thought the first 75% of Paddington was the same plot as Elf. Though Elf is much much funnier. The final act reminded me of Beethoven. This fish-out-of-water water plot has been done so many times, there wasn't much new to this film.

Also Nicole Kidman was pretty much Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmations

Beethoven. An animal comes to live with a family, the father hates the animal, but the mom is more open to it. The animal is named based on a coincidence. The animal helps the kids at school. Meanwhile, a villain masquerading as someone who helps animals, is hunting the title character in order to kill it. In the end, the father comes to love the animal. Very similar plot.

Annie-villainess (Nicole Kidman as Millicent Clyde a la Cameron Diaz, Carole Burtnett as Miss Hanningan) vs orphan or lost "child character", and Ted was like Giovanni Ribisi'
s character,too.

Stuart Little-which also was a 1960s TV special (narrated by Johnny Carson no less!)--innocent little animal moves in with family..
