Can someone who has seen this and Big Hero 6 and/or Shaun the Sheep

...recommend which is the best choice for the whole family which includes 5/6 year olds? Thanks in advance...

I enjoyed all three, but if pushed I would say Paddington was my favourite. However Shaun the Sheep might be the safest option for a group including young children. Paddington will probably be fine too, but it'll depend on the children.
Shaun the Sheep is a "U", but Paddington and Big Hero 6 are rated "PG" here in the UK, which means they may not be suitable for children under 8.

There are a few "threat" sequences in Paddington which might upset very young or sensitive children (although TBH I sat next to a girl in the cinema who was so young she watched most of the film while perched on her mother's lap, and she had no problems with it whatsoever).

The same applies to Big Hero 6 (perhaps even more so). Also, I feel the style and tone of that film are more appropriate for slightly older children.

IMO, all three movies contain more than enough "smarts" to keep adults entertained.

Thanks for the reply. I was already edging towards Paddington but I heard the villain could be scary to children. Something with stuffed animals. But as long as they don't get traumatized there's nothing wrong with a movie that's a little exciting, right?

FYI, the following is from the BBFC classification for Paddington:
There are occasional sequences of mild threat when Paddington is chased by the villain who threatens to kill and stuff him, as well as a brief sequence in which Paddington lies unconscious on a table while a taxidermist prepares their tools nearby. There is also a short scene in a jungle when Paddington and his family run for shelter during an earthquake with trees falling around them.

Agreed. Speaking personally, all the children I know who've seen Paddington have been fine with it. However, there have been a few posts on this board from parents whose children are particularly sensitive to threat and character deaths (which incidentally is a major plot point in Big Hero 6).
As usual, it all comes down to parents/guardians being able to make an informed decision for themselves...

Big Hero 6 was pretty good but I liked Paddington more.
There was a disconnect with me on Big Hero 6 when it went from the individual story of Hero and Baymax (which I liked) to the Avengers type team (which I found boring).

Paddington is a singular story. Hugh Bonneville is wonderful as always as the stiff upper class dad and Nicole Kidman is a really good villain. In some ways it's like the Mr. Bean movie but done better IMO.

Not seen Shaun but I enjoyed Big Hero a lot more than Paddington, however it maybe that Paddinton was clearly aimed more directly for children and as such maybe a better choice for 5 year olds and is still an enjoyable movie.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

I personally loved all 3 films but in completely different ways. As did my godduaghters who were both 7 years old and 10 years old.

If you want to be ultra safe, I'd say Shaun the Sheep. If the children are older and seen quite a few PG rated films, they should be OK with Big Hero 6 and/or Paddington. All fantastic films with a lot to offer, in my opinion.
