She may have been mean, but her husband was pretty clueless to her unhappiness when it was pretty obvious.

"You're wondering what's a place like me doing in a girl like this."

Her life had not turned out anything like she had hoped, her husband was slipping into failure in a second career, her dream of a family was not coming true either, so she was bitter and angry. she had no outlet for it all; she blamed him and was mean to him.

Or maybe she was just a b*tch.
