Get Over It was kind a Hamlet 2 for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Even gave Kirsten Dunst a song. The one time in film history her singing mid-film didn't make me throw my popcorn at the screen.
The play within the play (or film in this case) that guilts Principal Rocker.
The wife, Brie, and Gary run off together.
Dana was betrayed by Rand but in the end he comes back and forgives him.
I said the film follows Hamlet loosely. It's not a direct retelling of the story by any means. There are definitely major plot points that are strikingly similar to Hamlet. Since the film is called Hamlet 2 and it centers around the play of the same name, it's safe to assume those plot points were intentional. No?
Haha, that was actually pretty good. As you said, not a straight retelling, but it does have some interesting similarities, which probably aren't coincidental due to the nature of the movie. Thanks for pointing them out.

there's 'O' (2001) which is based on Othello. but not much good in my opinion.
I quite enjoyed 'Get Over It' though, it was pretty entertaining. My class even did a short excerpt from the musical for our Book Day performance (Midsummer's was our chosen book)
