Mixed feelings about this one (spoilers)

The premise is very interesting (some claim about being based loosely on a real person's story)

Once Alice learns the truth, and reads about civil rights activism, she transforms into a revolutionary and the movie turns into a 70s bad-ass revenge flick.

It's hard to believe that she would easily turn from a meek enslaved woman to a tough strong black woman, instead of suffering from shock and trauma.

Overlook that big leap in logic and this movie is both a though provoking story and a fun cool 70s revenge flick.

this movie's lame, Common has no common sense & this chick did not transform overnight reading Jive mags. and where the hell had the Brother been, how did he not find his way to the Highway.

People deal with trauma in different ways, some become depressed, some become self-destructive, some become violent. Now we live in a society where (most) people consider it unacceptable to deal with trauma by getting a gun and seeking bloody revenge, but the heroine of this film has undoubtedly grown up in a place where brutality and violence are the norm. That's how her mind would have been formed.

Now whether an escaped slave would be *good* at fighting is a different question! Using weapons, fighting, strategy, and soldiering are skills that take training and practice.

Unfortunately, the writing was horrible. A time leap by a few months is needed to make her transformation ccredible.I thought the 70s revenge part would be good, but it was cringeworthy because of the script.
