CGI Jeff Bridges/CLU - 6 years on

Ok, so, anytime I see a new movie which uses de-aging CGI technology I immediately think back to the many discussions about it on this board.
The general opinion was that it didn't look right but kudos for having the balls to try it in it's infancy.

So to 2016 and I've just watched Nocturnal Animals and I must say a de-aged Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal look just like the real thing.

Granted the "time-jump" is only roughly 20 years younger but it's hard to spot that it's even being used now.

With that in mind , what chance of a Tron: Legacy re-release with Jeff's face re-rendered and brought in line with how it should look thanks to todays technology?

I'm thinking with the technology modifications made by 2016 Disney/Lucasfilm could make any believable Star Wars movie adaptation they wish with the OT stars.

The type of CG de-aging you're describing was used in the third X-Men movie to create younger versions of Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart by smoothing out wrinkles in live-action footage of them.

But in Tron Legacy it was a completely different process. They used live action footage of a stand-in actor, then superimposed a digital model of a young Jeff Bridges over top of that. The process is described in-depth here: http://www.awn.com/vfxworld/creating-new-legacy-tron

yeah mocap stuff. similar to what they did on Warcraft movie (which yes is total garbage but from an effects standpoint it's interesting, since it's 99% cgi, even if nothing they did was truly impressive beyond the orc-face stuff)

god i would love that. seriously the poly count on the version used in the film and the textures are just low *beep* resolution. it looks horrible now. i hate that effect, when the effects of a movie distract you years later. truly.

If we're talking re-release, I still don't think the technology's there. Or at least the skill. Looking at what they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue One, I think it just barely works; and that's being generous. It didn't work at all for Princess Leia.

I don't think they are going to touch this until an anniversary date because Disney's money and focus is in Star Wars right now... It's sad because I would have loved to see a 3rd Tron movie... Also would have loved to see a film company finish the Chronicals of Narnia.. They never seem to get past the Voyage of the Dawn Treader...

CGI Jeff Bridges looked great, and still holds up, except when the character speaks. Somehow, the mouth is just the hardest thing to rig and animate realistically.

It's not an easy task, apparently.. it looks like they've improved it, with Captain America. And i thought they did a great job with the Xmen's last stand.. Apparently, the actors couldn't move around very much while talking?

Where as in Tron, the young face was done very well, in different light settings.

They did a great job in Ant-Man. If they could go back with the same process for Tron it would make a substantial improvement.
