The importance of being Sodenbergh

This movie was absolute crap.

But being Sodenbergh the one who directed it, lots of people claim it is as a masterpiece.

If this movie had been directd by an amateur director, lots of the people that praise it would be ripping it to pieces.

This means that is you have A NAME in the Hollywood industry you may 5hit over the celluloid tape and show it to the public, and yet they will praise your crap.

Shucks, this wasn't the porn movie you were expecting... But hey! what else should we all expect from a fan of Zombieland, Saw, Hostel, and it's ilk, Also the frequent panner of Avatar, who has written such riveting commentaries and reviews as:

Zombieland by Bioweapon (Mon Apr 19 2010 05:25:17)

Problems with high powered rifles such as AK-47 and M4 is:
- heavy weight of ammo (ak-47 uses 7.62 ammo, m4 uses 5.56), much heavier than a mp5 clip.
- high recoil: the bigger the caliber, the bigger the recoil (thus, harder to aim in semi auto or full auto mode).
- 7.62 and 5.56 are not standard calibers, they are not easy to find in small armories.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Surrogates by Bioweapon (Sat May 1 2010 14:02:27)

nope.

It is: crappy idea, crappy movie.

If you put Matrix and The sims in a blender you get Surrogates.

A nonconformist's review of Avatar... saturns1stmoon (Fri May 7 2010 14:15:36)

"But I digress, I hate over-hyped big-budget anything, BUT, I must say, that I absolutely LOVED Avatar!"

Re: A nonconformist's review of Avatar... by Bioweapon (Fri May 7 2010 18:02:33)

then you are, in your own words one of the Americans are so easily amused by big expensive special-effects & over-hyped crap action films. Like a baby with car keys. Movies like that are aimed at the idiot middle-American redneck Walmart shopper who's afraid to read subtitles & loves pro-wrestling.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...that we should all take heed of his cautionary wisdom when it comes to moving movies such as this that are not even worthy of the likes of Bioweapon insightfulness. I just wish someone would give Bioweapon back his 2 cents and send him on his way.

dude, i was not expecting a porn movie. Shasha if ugly as *beep* (if you have jacked off with me... er.... "read" my reviews you´d have seen that i was expecting something more than nudity.

Besides, you should read what you copy and paste, the you´d see that i ´ve criticized all those movies.

you are doing nothing but executing a magnificent exercise of mental masterbation when you consider yourself to be aware of cinema just because you appreciate a movie suh as this one.

Go figure that at Sundance Festival this movie was shown and it received nothing but negative reviews from critics. Bye, mate.

Fisrt of all, I'm am not your mate!!!! That suggests that I actually would have anything to do with you other than this exchange. Your apparent ignorance is showing because my post goes toward your apparent taste in movies ...or lack of thereof. You only seem to bother to exchange your passions about movies that you dislike or have little appeal. Similarly I chose those bits & pieces because they all seem be of the same ilk. So it makes one wonder how satiable such a panning of an artistic movie or director would be within your sphere of artistic sensibility to appraise with any such value what-so-ever. I could have posted all the other nonsense but these were the jist of it.

Now that I'm done with "YOUR" apparent viewer's expertise, here's the link to some of the 100 or so experts that refute your apparent expertise and by a large margin dispite GFE's failure at Sundance Festival in overshadowing "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" which won by such a small margin: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1103982/externalreviews

I must however agree our taste is movies is most different as well as our ability to access filmography for it's worth and artistic integrity. I believe you missed the whole point of the movie because of you apparently have absolutely zero understanding of the climate or of what took place in the USA in during the 2008 election which this movie set. I based this conclusion on YOUR misleading remark that I was some sort of friend of yours that you could refer to as a "mate", which leads me to believe you are from the UK and therefore clueless. No self-respecting American would call someone their "mate" unless the were taking one the a$$ for the team, if you get my drift. So you stick to your genres and I'll stick to mine.

agredd. I must say, though, we in Argentina faced (because my sh**ty country) in the last 15 years bigger *beep* that what USA might have faced in the last 30-40. But that´s not relevant. My point is, if you make a movie, then try to put the situation in lamer terms, so that anyone (samoan, argentinean, mexican, or whatever) might be able to understand it. Movie is shallow, characters do not display emotions of any type, there is no character development (I mean, no clue on Sasha´s boy, and the guys he travel with). Sasha only talks balloney about the clothing she wears in each encounter, she is simply gone ALL the movie.

which leads me to believe you are from the UK and therefore clueless.

nope, I wish I was in UK... but no, I´m in Argentina =)

So now that we're in agreement, here's the jist of it (movie):

All this stuff:

"I must say, though, we in Argentina faced (because my sh**ty country) in the last 15 years bigger *beep* that what USA might have faced in the last 30-40. But that´s not relevant."

...is relevant. OK now! Stay with this!!! Now that's the climate (our climate/your climate makes no difference) and within that climate is this multitude of characters from the 'normal' slice of society living all being drawn in & developing voracious tension, which is then released over the runtime. Sascha is also one such character who is however fluid in this climate, yet she flows freely between the world of politics, the world of economics and the subculture of societal 'norms', and she is the release (I'm not sure of the exact nature of prostitution in Argentina but it is illegal HERE in the states with exception of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA). She is also a individual just like you and me. She's trying to stay under the radar if you get my drift and she's also trying to have a 'REAL' relationship in 'normal' society. This is exactly what you are watching ...all these entities play a part in her journey. Lets assume this: Just suppose you can say I am a part of your journey for right now ...if only for a brief moment ...and yet more was expected or yearned for. To speak metaphorically, "Just how long can this note be sustained before it's finally released".

And her traveling companion is the 'boyfriend' that just doesn't somehow fit. Thats 'being Sodenbergh', Here's information about Sodenbergh (BTW, its not Sodenbergh) directorial/editing style:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Soderbergh#Aesthetics

Sodenbergh likes to experiment on film, and it's all about the storytelling. Sometimes there's a complete lack of dialogue, and sometimes there's too much... This may very well have been the case. For me it was like watching an airport terminal operating at full swing. but I get the jist of it because I lived here during this setting. Soderbergh is really not my favorite but he makes me think. Also if you've ever get to see any of his other works were he's worn both 'hats' as the director and the editor they are of the similar vane.

Anyway I hope I did it some justice here without spoiling it for others who hadn't seen it yet! OK!

I recorded it on DVD so I actually had the chance to review it again. Sorry if I went on the defensive with you but I think Sodenbergh's one of few brilliant producer/directors we have left. Our producers & directors HERE just don't create movies HERE the way they used to. It's all about the almighty dollar $$$. I think the last time Hollywood took a risk was back in the 1970s. MPAA has sucked the life out of them.
