Pre-Chris Guy + John Who Stood Her Up

Does anyone have theories (or know) who was the guy (john?) she was interested in before Chris. (The journalist asks her about him and she says she's "handling" the situation.)
2nd question: Who was the john who stood her up at the Hudson River valley resort?
Thanks. I kind of love it when a film creates these little puzzles....

the guy before chris i think was a stalker. thats why she said she was "handling" it. because he was still out there. thats why she got the pre-paid phone. she was paranoid and didnt wanna be traced. sasha said in the DVD commentary that she added this to the story when she met up with real escorts and found them to be very paranoid and that some men dont know how to let go. thats why chelsea used the name christine with her clients and in general gave them little to no information about her. i think she was naive along time ago and gave the guy she was dating before chris too much "real" information and it bit her in the a$$ and now she always has a wall up, even with chris, because of what happened before. thats why she was willing to leave him. she never allowed herself to fully love him. the minute he started to get mad about her going away with someone else, the minute he got too controlling and clingy (in her eyes, in my eyes he had every right to react the way he did), she began to withdraw from him even more.

the guy who stood her up was the client she wanted to stay with over a weekend, the guy she was gonna leave chris for possibly. he chickened out when he realized he couldn't do that to his wife and daughters. she was so hurt because she really cared about this guy and thought she could date him. now she's lost chris AND the new guy.

....all of this will most likely lead to her emotionally shutting down even MORE and being completely cold, having no "real" outside relationships, only dealing with her clients. i dont see many men putting up with her act for long.

GREAT film by the way. one of my all time faves. LOVE LOVE LOVE Sasha!!! Soderberg is one of favorite directors as well. Beautifully shot movie.

Thanks for your comment. Her new cell phone thing didn't occur to me.
I could be wrong, but wasn't there a scene when she was with the guy who stood her up after he stood her up? Wasn't he kind of consoling her? In which case it wasn't totally over w/ him as a client, although I think she's smart enough to realize he would not leave his wife and children for her. I'm not sure she ever did think that. I think she was just looking forward to a weekend in a nice place out of town.
If we disregard Avatar, I think GFE is arguably the best film of 2009, best one I've seen anyway.

remember the film was edited out of sequence and out of chronological order. i think the scene you're referring to happened BEFORE he stood her up (in the story)...it was just shown AFTER that scene...

Yes, I know it's non-linear. Perhaps it could be interpreted as before or after.

I just finished watching GFE for the second time, and I think the "consoling" scene had to have occurred before he stood her up. I think this because (a) his standing her up never comes up in the conversation (instead he asks how her day has been and why she's upset and (b) because the way he described to Chelsea on the phone about bawling his eyes out when he talked to his kids indicated to me that he'd realized he could never risk his family by "dating" an escort.

also she broke an important rule during the consoling scene: you don't talk about yourself to the client. she was allowing him to get to know her. that made the mystery die for him. he realized that he was getting caught up in a fantasy. she has problems just like he has problems with his wife and kid(s) at home. he realized he'd be a fool to date an escort and left it at that.
