a different take on ending

I don't really like Mr. Phoenix, but I watched anyway and was pleasantly surprised. Here's my interp. of ending: He's going to kill himself because Michelle ripped his heart out. He throws away the inhaler thing, then starts walking into the ocean (drowning?). But this'll leave everyone with total heartache, esp. the other girl. He doesn't want to make them feel like he does, so he goes back home and "does the right thing"...makes everyone happy (but himself...he's not crying because he's happy....he's devastated). His parents and future in-laws get the merger, the girl gets him and feels a purpose in life, his mother doesn't have to worry about him anymore. Then....wham-bam....he has an attack. No inhaler = death. Suicide by not having life saving meds in-hand. Looks like an accident and no one is disappointed in him anymore. When will it happen? He doesn't know and he doesn't really care.

No.

Why would you even think that he has an inhaler? He never uses one in the entire movie. The "thing" he threw away was the engagement ring. He obviously picks it up before he returns to the apartment though.

I think the OP was creating a whole new scenario.
At least I hope so. Otherwise, we have to assume he/she just didn't pay attention.

If only it were an inhaler or some form of life-saving medication the scenario would be plausible and quite compelling. Since it's not, well..
