What was the point of the implied homosexual relationship?

It wasn't historical, it was just injected by the filmmakers. And it had nothing to do with the story. So why did they do it?

It's just subtext. You can interpret it as a gay attraction if you want, or you could see it as two lonely people finding companionship for the first time. The film seems to examine our definition of masculinity - Mark the more manly of the brothers in appearance is actually emotionally fragile and vulnerable. Dave the brother who loves his kids and his wife, and his affectionate with his brother, is the one who's happy and fulfilled. Basically it adds another layer to the film and leaves it up to the viewer to interpret it as they wish.

straight people good - gay people bad --- I think that is the point the film is trying to make

What else than implied homosexual actions is wrestling in general? This link seems very obvious and therefore also not forced. Whether it is "historical" doesn't matter since the movie as such is not a documentary but a piece of fiction. Also, just because Schultz says so doesn't mean there was actually nothing. The way he feels "insulted" by the mere suggestion shows that he has some issues with this topic.

Overall the scenes just emphasizes to the viewer how odd and unprofessional their relationship becomes. Which is therefore a reasonable approach of the director, particularly since there is nothing explicit, i.e. in the end it's left open whether there was anything going on..

I wondered whether this was accurate or not. There was a deffently a suggestion of it.

Wow...um....seeing something that isn't there? I think this is more of your subconscious interpretation of reality, than reality itself.

Anyone who's wrestled, played sports, or done group camping trips, knows that at some point, you're comfortable enough with your masculinity that being close to other guys, and naked in front of them, isn't gay or implied homosexuality. It's just that you stop caring about looking "gay" and do whatever.

And wrestling is the most homo-erotic sport from a spectators stand point. But I tell everyone the same thing, wrestle with me for 5 minutes and then tell me how gay it is.

Wait...when was a homosexual relationship implied in this movie?? I'm gay so I usually pick up on that sort of thing but it must've gone totally over my head! What did I miss?

After the film's release, Dave Metlzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that "The belief is that there was a homosexual relationship with Du Pont and a wrestler, but not Mark."

....so perhaps they just combined that wrestler's experience w/ Mark Schultz's for the sake of running time?
