Towards the end of Malevolence, they talk about the little boy being in the closet waiting to kill him. What happened to this scene? That's one thing that I was waiting for and he died completely differently. It's the same director so there's really no excuse.

I wondered this, too.
The only possibility that I can think of is that the "journal entry" about the closet in Malevolence was actually written by Sutter's father about how Sutter was waiting to kill him. The rest of the journal was written by Sutter himself.
It's kind of grasping at straws, but it's the only thing that I could think of....unless Sutter wrote the entry at another time, believing that Martin was going to kill him earlier. Who knows? Sutter was crazy.
Despite this apparent continuity gaffe, I thought Bereavement worked really well as a prequel. I would like to hear the writer/director's take on this goof though.
I kinda assumed that he wrote it as well prior and was just wrong....
