The Pros and Cons

Alright well before I start, let me say that I do feel a little cheesed and Bereavement to me did feel a little lackluster but there are some pros and cons that really stood out about it.

Let's start with the Cons

Cons:
Flat Villains:
Any horror film that doesn't explain the back-story about the serial killer or protagonist shows to me that the writers took an easy route off with the purpose behind them. You look at any serial killer that exists that is successful, and they all have a really solid root to work upon and their actions are caused based off emotional reactions. Throwing in a "Satan" or "Bull horn" (or *beep* worshiper is lame and offers us the viewers no depth or sympathy. Even Jason has a sappy back story which you learn to understand, but his actions are greater than your sympathy as viewers so you learn to hate him, though knowing his history makes the story flow.

Pacing:
I found the pacing was a little off towards the start, you almost start to not really care too much about the characters other than Daddario and where she's heading. I found the pace did in fact pick up near the end and at least made up for some of the slower paces in the start. Especially when you have scenes that don't explain the villains story.. it makes the pacing even slower and if he at least looked frightening, then it'd make it at least a little more exciting.

Pros:
There were quite a few notable experiences and performances that I thought were worth noting (Other than Daddario's... uh of course)

I thought while the lines were cheap and the script was poor when it came to the Villain, I believe Brett Rickaby who played the villain excelled in most of his performances and showcased a wide variety and strong emotions without breaking the facade. This helped when the script and back-story didn't explain much.. giving us the viewers a small sense of realism with his portrayal. I never once cringed, other than at the corny lines "Curiosity Killed The Cat". Lucky for Bereavement the cat has 9 lives and thus Brett saved the script. In fact... I enjoyed his performance soo much that i wouldn't mind seeing him portray the more comical style Joker, he's definitely got the look.

They say the leads are only as powerful as their supporting cast.. and in this case this myth rings true when Spencer is put on the list. It's not easy for just any 10+ year old to play a docile murderous villain with imploded rage that makes you fear his very small silhouette alone. This kid's got potential and if coincidences existed, I'd bet my imaginary money that Spencer will someday change his middle name to "A" why? because he told him too and I don't feel like there's any room elsewhere for him. Thank-you casting directors.

Now for Alexandra Daddario... well where to begin, she's amazing. I mean not much else to say about her I loved the beautiful sunset with the butterflies, how she was prancing around the tall grassy green fields as birds tweeted to the rhythm of her heart-beat, as my blood temperature rose, I knew Alexandra Daddario was an angel I just didn't know how to prove it.....Wait.... Sorry those were just my thoughts when I went googly eyed over her gorgeous eye-balls. But in reality; she's great, plays her role really well and she offers that much needed icing when the movie got a little bland. Kudos to the directors/writers for making her do Yoga, Run and stay healthy. That's the type of positivity that inspires the viewers to pursue a greener life-style. You sneaky...you....

Sutter was an animal lover that was forced to work in his father's butcher shop. His guilt over killing the animals was what drove him to kill people out of a twisted idea for revenge for them, which is why he talked to a bull skull. So there is a back story for his killings. At least that's what I got out of it.
