They will never stop retelling A Christmas Carol
never

I hope not.
shareThey can keep retelling it, but good god. Do we really need two or three retellings EVERY year? With how many retellings/versions there are, I think there is plenty to choose from on picking a favorite. For me, I kind of like the one with The Muppets, and I'm that big of a Muppets person. They are just okay, but there was something about their version I REALLY liked. But spread out the dang retellings. Maybe one every 5-10 years. Not two or three EVERY year. Ridiculous.
I think this is why I liked the Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci Sleepy Hollow. It wasn't the same Sleep Hollow story with Ichabod and The Headless Horseman retold yet again. They changed it up and made it into a slasher/horror/murder mystery type of movie.
To be fair, there have really only been a handful of major versions. The last one came out in 2009, which was Disney's animated version with Jim Carrey. That was 13 years ago.
The last one before that was the 1999 TNT version with Patrick Stewart. And the last one before that was the 1984 film with George C. Scott.
Other than those, in that same timespan all I can think of is a poor, little seen TV musical with Kelsey Grammar, the FX miniseries from a few years ago that was A Christmas Carol in name only, and a few animated versions.
Excuse me..... The Muppets?
shareI could certainly do without that awful BBC woke version from a few years ago!
Bring back the classic adaptations like Alastair Sim's, or if you must, that scary CGI Disneyfest with Jim Carrey.
I do agree that we're due for another major, classic adaptation that plays the story straight. They seem to come along about every 12 years on average.
1938 (Reginald Owen)
1951 (Alistair Sim)
1970 (Albert Finney)
1984 (George C. Scott)
1999 (Patrick Stewart)
2009 (Jim Carrey)
I hope that woke version becomes the standard. Whatever version you are referring to, I don't recall one. If you are referring to the one with Guy Pearce, Stephen Graham and Andy Serkis then please appreciate that I am laughing at your definition of woke.
I guess the condemnation of the narrow pursuit of wealth and of the fear of being charitable, generous and considerate of those less fortunate and of those under the screws of the system isn't woke then? Because that is what A Christmas Carol is about. Every version.
"I hope that woke version becomes the standard. Whatever version you are referring to, I don't recall one. If you are referring to the one with Guy Pearce, Stephen Graham and Andy Serkis then please appreciate that I am laughing at your definition of woke."
Then how come according to this, it was very divisive and Americans certainly didn't like it?

That was as woke as they come, changing the race of several characters, for fuck's sake, and you call ME woke for being bored to tears of it at the time?
"they changed the race". Get a grip, snowflake.
shareThat's not how true Victorian society was, dipshit. Next you'll be saying that the awful David Copperfield movie from a few years ago is a breath of fresh air, with its many black and Asian Victorians!
And don't say the race doesn't matter because of these being fictional works, Dickens would turn in his grave if he knew his works had been DESECRATED like this!
Everybody know dat Dickens was Black!
