The acting...

Although I'm not enjoying this one as much as the first series, I admit that some of the acting in this series impresses me.

Particularly, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Miles. He's able to project evil adult cunning and tormented boy in a manner way beyond other child actors that you typically see. The scene he shares with Oliver Jackson-Cohen when Peter tries to convince Miles to let him permanently inhabit his body had me teary eyed.

Victoria Pedretti as Dani... all screaming, quivering lips and darting eyes, and Henry Thomas with his overly enunciated British accent are the weakest actors. They are both American compared to the rest of the British cast. Not sure if that is significant.

Some of the strongest writing shows up in the monologues. Owen's tribute to his mother during the funeral episode, and Jamie's sad tale of growing up gay in a coal mining community were particular standouts.

You mention all this and not Oliver Jackson-Cohen? He was amazing!

And no, Victoria Pedretti and Henry Thomas weren't "the weakest actors". Yes, I also thought the latter's British accent was iffy, but playing a man smitten with his sister-in-law, crushed by guilt, his evil alter ego - he did all that very well.

I agree. My comment about the powerful scene he shared with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth was meant to highlight the two of them. I singled out Ainsworth specifically because it's unusual for a child actor to pull off the range of emotions that he does in this series.

"Weakest actors"... it's a relative term. They were both competent.

I never really got a sense of what would attract Henry's sister-in-law to him, compared to her husband who seemed to be a much warmer guy with a deep affection for her. Chalk it up to poor writing perhaps. The affair simply shows up out of nowhere when Flora catches them waking up together. There's really no expanded back story to justify it.

I found the character of Dani to be as bland as white bread. Most of her emoting was reduced to a bunch of acting tics. Again I just couldn't see what would attract the gardener -- outspoken, opinionated -- to this mousy American girl with the always quivering voice. However, since she lived alone on this big property maybe it was initially an affair of convenience?

Minor sidebar: My wife and I thought Dani's style of running -- seen in the final two eps -- was the weirdest thing we had seen on a long while. Where we should have been in a state of suspense, we were just laughing and making jokes about it.

Yes, I personally think the show should have been quite a bit longer for proper character development, like 12 episodes maybe.

I find this show very disappointing especially the protagonist,. The Innocents is far and above this in every way and form.

The old black and white movie? I know of it... slightly before my time. If you know of an online source, point me to it. Sometimes those older movies are better because more is left to the imagination.

As much as I liked The Haunting of Hill House, the original black-and-white is superior in some ways for that very reason.

The Innocents was way before my time but I watch a lot of classic films, I have it from a torrent a long time ago. You might find it on yify though.
