Oh come on! A 9.5? Citizen Kane and Shawshank Redemption aren't even rated that high. The filmmakers obviously got all of their friends to log on and rate the movie a 10. Nobody gets so many "10" ratings, not even the best of movies. Guys, this makes it looks suspicious as hell, and amusing to boot.
maybe you're just mad your films arent rated that high. it didnt hit theaters yet, so maybe it might actually be good. did you ever think of that ? why does it bother you so much ? it looks like a sterotypical movie about blacks. im sure i know why it is amusing to you the only reason i'm just going to see this movie cause mike epps is in it lol
Sany9988 - the reason he is mad about the votes on this movie is because it is absolutely ridiculous. Just a few days ago this was rated a 9.7 overall, which means if it was counted in the overall standings of this website it would be rated as the #1 movie of all time. Are you telling me you think this movie deserves to be rated #1 of all time? Not even close. And yes, the voting is suspicious as hell. Please, out of 100 some votes, 80% rated it a 10 out of 10...the next highest number rating was 3.4% of all votes. So yes, of course people are coming on here and deliberately trying to make this movie high.
I'm glad this movie has gone down since I've last checked. It's now at 8.7...but I know once it comes out it'll go a lot lower, too bad for everyone who tried getting it at #1. And I'm not hating on this movie (I haven't seen it yet, so I can't...although it doesn't look like it's too good) but I absolutely HATE when people try rigging the votes of movies. It's just so dumb and apparently obvious. Nice try though, idiots.
I have to agree with the O.P. and CaliManDan35. This is terribly suspicious. And my my experience with imdb.com, close to 200 votes is an awful lot for a film that wasn't released yet. Even if it screened prior on the European Market, that's just way too many votes. You're lucky to have so many votes even after screening at Sundance. So, yes, at first glance, this is very suspicious for IMDB.com.

youre glad ? why is it such a big deal anyway. most of my favorite movies have low ratings i really dont care. imdb ratings dont equal overall all ratings. you're glad for no reason. so you are a hater.
Exactly What difference does it make. By the way not everyone thinks Citizen Kane was the greatest movie ever made. Obviously people are going to vote for movie they like. I everyone voted on every movie then that could give you an accurate scale but that's never going to happen.
gotta agree as its annoying when you go to look at a movie rating see a high one watch the movie and realise it is b#llocks. I try to discount the 9s and 10s ignore the 1s and 2s and see what was in between and find that usually is a truer reflection. I do vote 1 and 10 for movies I actually like or detest a great deal and am not associated with any studios but most films here are initially weighted by fake votes from people who worked on the film :)
reason ? what reason are you talking about ? I can use whatever words I feel. hater in MY book, is term that I use when someone tries to bash something that isn't what they expect. also I dont recall replying to you. so why would you care what i say anyway. thanks for the insult.
Thank you for that jumbled mess of incoherent thoughts. "Hater" is a cop-out term against criticism. Instead of responding to it, you just say they are a "hater." C'mon man, come up with something better than that.
Well, as a Producer on this movie I obviously have a lot of "opinions" about different things. But one thing I can tell you for CERTAIN is that neither the distributor nor ANY ONE else paid anybody to vote. I was CLOSELY involved with the day to day marketing of the movie and never heard of any voting campaigns and never even knew people were voting until i recently checked this site.
We did acitvely screen the movie starting last January in cities all across US and having been to many of those and read all the reports. It always performed Excellent or Very Good (top 2 out of the 5 possible ratings categories), and frequently recieved standing ovations and/or rousing applause. People laughed their heads off during the movie (and gasped at the surprising dramatic moments) and that can't be faked.
IF the votes were faked their are 2 possibilities: Our wonderful cast did their own campaign (and never told me) or the people who pre-screened it did really vote their hearts, or got their friends to vote also.
As to the overall ratings, I'm surprised as to how many people (professional reviewers included) either LOVED or HATED the movie. It appears a lot of the HATERS had a PC response (to show how non-racist they are) that any movie that showed so many minorities in low-life roles must be, or should be, BAD. Does anyone say that about a Tarantino or Ritchie movie?
Ben Manciewitz, from "At THe Movies" on TV said it best to Ben Lyons criticism paraphrased above----"BUt that's who the movie was about!"
No dumb ass, they meant proportionally no one gets that many 10s. Hibban45, you're a moron. With only 200 votes total, if 120 of them are "10" that is suspicious.
And what is "loooooooool"? What you wrote is "Laugh out out out out out out out out out loud" -- which just shows how low your IQ must be.
Even the worst movies have 10 votes... 99.9% of the movies on this website have people who give them 10's, many of which I'd imagine are worse than this. Not to mention the fact that when movies are new, they generally have much higher ratings because the people who actually care to see them this fast expect to like them, or want to pump up the movie of a favorite actor. No doubt this movie will drop below a 7 with time... I'm not quite sure why people are getting worked up/worried about this.... it's nothing new.
i agree with you a little, but there are plenty above a five. in many instances what your saying does apply. i personally think every one of tyler perry's movies suck balls, but theres plenty of "black movies" i like (all above a 5).
examples - friday, next friday, friday after next, all about the benjamins, new jack city, juice, don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood, boyz n the hood(7.8), menace II society(7.4), city of god(8.8), hotel rwanda(8.3). i know the last two aren't the "black movies" you were talking about, but still...
I can't believe people still make a big deal out of the voting system on this site. A reference to Shawshank Redemption and Citizen Kane...two films that absolutely suck and are boring in some folks eyes(not mine). It's not that serious!
