Honest review, please tell me what you think.

Next Day Air is one of those flicks that while it had a mildly interesting trailer, it suffered the great consequence of being released on the same day as a huge blockbuster (Star Trek). One would almost speculate that the studio involved had little faith in their product and just dropped it on that weekend.

Next Day Air is a film that's fairly inspired by solid films before it, in this case Guy Ritche immediately comes to mind. We see what the film is going for, and while it tries to reach out to become that, it falls just a wee bit short. I say this because Next Day Air's very brief running time is mostly nothing but suspense building, giving the sense of urgency to it's viewers, it has a rather short cheapened climax.

The film goes through extra loops to establish nearly a good ten characters, we hardly get to know and most of the characters and they aren't particularly like able. The film tries to flow in a comedic tone, but by the end when our comedic characters are being shot it comes off as oddly dark and out of place.

It's a shame the film isn't funnier or detailed in any other way. It does a solid job of setting up the domino's of the situation and knocking them down, but before you know it the film is completely over and you're not sure what to have taken from the experience. While it's amusing, nothing really comes out of the film that would draw you in to watch it again. Although it's out of place with the flow of the film, the shoot out at the end is probably the only memorable moment of the film. The trailer gives any positive quality of the film entirely. Watch it on a rainy day.

For a first-time viewing, quite enjoyable for its suspense-building effect, plenty of surprise twists along the way, never quite knowing what's gonna happen next, right up to the climax shootout scene, and even the aftermath of that - who survived, who didnt, who got what, who didnt.

Re: character development, must somewhat disagree with Punisher55 - sufficient work WAS done on all the key players to make the shootout scene much more interesting to watch. Hell, we even got enough inkling into the psyche of Hassie the Sleeping Dude.

I rewound the shootout scene in slower motion several times just to better digest, frame by frame, who-exactly-did-who.

Having said all that, however, must agree with Punisher55 that the movie isnt really up to a second viewing, if only because the suspense/surprise element will have become kind of redundant.
