Some of the most inconsistent logic in movie history
The science in this film absolutely makes NO sense. I get that it's some fantasy beach where things that can't happen in the real world happen here. But Shyamalan tries to add a scientific explanation that ties it down to the real world, and his explanation is complete garbage, as is the science.
1. They explain that people need to eat tons of food to make up for their aging bodies, I GUESS because their bodies are burnings days-worth of calories in minutes. However, we only see them eat once or twice. By the film's own explanation, wouldn't they need to be shoveling mass amounts of food constantly?
2. The baby dies instantly because it doesn't get the nutrients it needs, essentially starving to death. But why are the adults able to go without food or so long? By the film’s own logic on why the infant suddenly died, every single person in the movie should’ve dropped dead after a few minutes due to starvation or extreme dehydration.
3. Why do some corpses wither away to dust in minutes but other corpses rot normally and can last days on the beach?
4. Why does one stab wound kill someone instantly due to an infection, but another stab wound heals instantaneously? Also, why would an rust-based infection spread throughout the body in seconds if the rust is an organic condition? For an infection to spread like that, that would mean the body would be multiplying and manufacturing its own rust particles.
5. Why the fuck would someone with accelerated hypocalcemia transform into a human pretzel??? That's not at all how the condition works. They're more likely to die of extreme diarrhea if anything.
6. Why would medicine work on this beach? If the body aged THAT quickly, medicine would probably be affective all for about two seconds. That is, unless, the body can still require a normal amount of food, meaning the metabolism isn’t affected. But then, if that’s the case, why did the baby die from malnutrition?
