Why did they make one character a famous rapper?

I mean what possible purpose did that serve for a supposedly serious horror movie? It's stuff like this that makes M Night look like such an amateur writer and as if he's trying to make a parody. I watched Scary Movie 4 the other day and half of the dialogue and actions of the characters in this would not look out of place in that sort of movie. Some mind-numbingly dumb and even hilarious scenes to be found in this, how does a fully grown adult, never mind an established film director, give it the ok and not leave it on the cutting room floor?

Why not? It wouldn't be crazy to think out of all the wealthy people at that resort one of them could have been famous.

reply

There are probably many celebrities that have been to that resort, but the ones that are taken to the beach are hand-picked for their medical afflictions.

I mentioned in another thread that it was illogical for them to take a celebrity to the beach, because a ton more people would demand to know what happened to him, and him going to the resort would have been his last whereabouts. It’s just too much attention, and too many questions, for an outfit that wants to keep a low profile.

I mean, if I mysteriously disappeared at a resort, there’s only a handful of non-wealthy people that would care about that. Now, if it was Eminem that mysteriously disappeared instead, there would be a media frenzy surrounding the resort, a heavy investigation, and very wealthy people demanding answers.

He's a massive conspiracy theorist.

I think a better question. Is why did they go with the name Mid-size Sedan. I don't know many rappers named after Cars.

reply

If a Rapper was going to name themselves after a car it's would be a Benz or Bugatti not a fucking Mid-size Sedan. Shayamalan is a terrible writer. The dialog is even worse. What kid goes around asking everybody he meets whats you name and occupation? Trash ass writing.

His movie "The Visit" about a boy and a girl who go to rural Pennsylvania to stay with their grandparents who they've never met before also had the boy being an amateur rapper.

reply

Because he wanted to have a black character believed by a white character to be guilty.

Get with it man, we got boxes to check.

Film loses points for having no gay characters or people with blue hair.

Probably why it tanked.

Oh wait, it tanked because the main bad guys were, oh wait, they're saviors of mankind. I'm so confused.
