Cage's performance of back pain was dead on

I suffered with chronic back pain for a decade and it's only now starting to get better. Cage nailed it with his posture, his walk, and even the winces and grimaces he makes. I particularly noticed the face he made when he was called into the Captian's office (right before the "don't let me find out you needed help and didn't ask for it" scene), I know that expression because I made it for years when taking a first step like that. His posture was EXACT. Say whatever you want about the film (I don't think it should have been tied to Bad Lieutenant, it's a completely different movie) or the ending (wrapped up a little too nicely for my taste) but Cafe was dead on. Best acting he has doen in years.

why no oscar buzz for his performance? Cage is underrated and under appreciated because he does family movies.

I agree- great performance worthy of at least an Oscar nomination. He has never been better.

A lot of people are critical of Cage, which would be justified if he had only made movies like National Treasure, Wicker Man, Bangkok Dangerous (and much more), but when he gets a good role like this (or Adaptation, Weather Man, Leaving Las Vegas, etc) he really is in a league of his own and creates an astounding impression. I wish he'd get more great roles because he is fantastic...
