krauts should stick to their operas

Just wanted to share my crap right after having watched it. I thought it was a poor cinematic experience overall...even Cage didn't bring it home. The comedy was meant to be there but it wasn't....as some posters put it, the director didn't realize he was making a black comedy. For example the scene with cage removing the oxygen was too serious rather than hilarious and the one with the mobster soul dancing was ridiculous. The scene at the cemetery didn't make any sense at all, comic or dramatic. What were Herzog's credentials for such a venture totally unknown to him anyway? wouldn't it be like Tarantino trying to shoot Tinker bel? . Sorry but no way I could see any art or magic in this crap. The box office hammered Herzog; not even 10% of the movie's cost was covered...Doesn't look there will be a second port of call

That's why it's awesome. It's completely ridiculous, but it's played strait. Would it really have been better if it was played as a zany comedy? I don't think so.
