decent movie just 1 massive problem

this movie was decent. i liked cage's acting on the different drugs he was on. i thought the story was alright but lacked any real intensity. cage's character and his problems overshadowed the murders a little too much if you asked me. but to my main question and point. WHAT THE HELL WERE THE PRODUCERS THINKING? WHY WOULD ANYONE SPEND $25million on A MOVIE THAT HAS NO POSSIBLE CHANCE OF BEING MAINSTREAM ACCEPTABLE DUE TO THE ABUNDANCE OF DRUG USE AND A VIGILANTE COP? DO THE MATH! IF ITS NOT AT LEAST MILDLY MAINSTREAM ACCEPTABLE YOU WILL NOT RECOUP YOUR MONEY! CUT THE FUNDING OFF AT $5million. now that i think of it is there any way this movie cost $25 million as imdb says? there were no explosions and maybe a dozen bloody bodies and some fake cocaine and guns.

what, your biggest complaint about this movie is that you don't think it is good business? The film industry makes enough money - it does not always have to revolve around that alone. If I need to see the adverts of another mainstream superhero movie I might be driven to the same drug habits

I understand what hes getting at, its amazing how producers will just throw money at a movie, yet in other area like music, its really really hard to get an album produced without a guaranteed hit.

reply

Herzog is an acclaimed director. If there's anyone who producers should "throw money at", it's him.
And It's nice to see the likes of Herzog get proper funding from time to time, since high-budget movies nowadays tend to be complete *beep*

dude im not complaining lol.

I'm proud to say my poetry is only understood by that minority which is aware.

reply

$25 mil isn't a ton anymore, it's a low-medium budget for a studio movie.

reply

Just fyi, Herzog said he completed the movie millions under budget.

I got news for 'em. There's gonna be hell to pay. 'Cause I ain't Daddy's little boy no more.

reply

Yeah, why would somebody want to produce a good movie.

reply

There are successful movies about dirty cops and successful movies with a lot of drug use. I don't see how either of those concepts is risky.

reply

Like "Training Day" and "The Departed". Both movies involve dirty cops, particularly "Training Day". The oringinal posters argument does not hold water, I'm not buying it.

When the hero becomes the villian....who becames the hero?
