He was a revelation and this film is absolutely hilarious. Can't remember the last time I laughed so hard in a film.

The film didn't have enough of a "mainstream appeal" and therefore Nicolas didn't get his nomination(The Oscars are lunatics). Plus, Hollyweird REALLY has it in for him at the moment it seems.

Same reason Keitel didn't get a nomination for the 1994 Bad Lieutenant. The Academy lacks balls.

Funnily, as far as I`m concerned, his main rival for the year`s best lead performance would have been Michael Shannon in another Herzog movie My Son My Son What Have Ye Done - him and perhaps also Michael Stuhlbarg in A Serious Man.
