Jumped the shark

I have been totally addicted to rhis show but now that I am in season 5 it has lost its appeal. It doesn't seem to have the same tone as in earlier seasons. I feel that somewhere in this season it jumped the shark

The season finale of Season 4 truly felt like the series finale but they've clearly decided to backpedal on that decision and make the show last as long as possible. I still enjoy it very much but it was admittedly better with Mallory and Jake.

Georgie has gotten a lot better and she's a likeable character now, same could be said for Jade who at first was detestable but now, she's fine too. Problem is, Georgie and Jade just seem like two replacements for Mallory and Mallory was there since the very start! She felt like she was part of the Heartland family since Mallory was always around to help out.

Heartland viewers literally saw her growing up for seven years so that's not something just to pretend it never happened.

I really enjoy Georgie. She might not have the same charm of Mallory but I like where they took her character. Jade unfortunately has not grown on me. She's easily the most annoying character in the later seasons for me. I still really liked season 5 but I do think that the lack of Ashley and Val dynamic hurt it a bit also because I believe that's when Malrroy started losing screen time, right? I can't recall. It all blends together once you binge it as fast as I did. Lol. That time period was a transitional in a away anyway because all the teenage characters had graduated and we're starting to go to college and explore life outside Hudson. So while it did suck to lose some of my favorite characters. I can appreciate that the writers didn't try and force all the characters to have a reason why they were still in Hudson.

Yeah, they tried to balance things out back then but every now and then they'd end up giving more on-screen time to a different actress. But hey, even though it's disappointing Mallory's gone her departure was done properly with a great farewell.

It develops a certain sameness. How often can Amy and Ty fight and get back together? How often can Lou and Peter fight over their marriage?

Some of the characters you grow to care about leave the show, which is typical of a long-running series.

Over time there's been less and less working with horses (which I found interesting). But at least you still get the gorgeous Canadian scenery.

It came from Happy Days when Fonzie jumped a shark on water skies. It was considered a ploy to try and improve ratings that back fired similar to when a sitcom introduces a new cute kid.
