The Canucks (no offense) seem to pronounce things differently... Why?

Are we ruining the Enlish language or just "Americanizing" it?
Why do different regions in the US pronounce words differently? Dialects seem to establish themselves in places that don't interact much with other regions.
I've noticed that with the coming of TV and other widespread communication, many people in the South don't even have a Southern drawl anymore.
I am from Virginia and we say "oot" and "aboot" and "hoos" just like the Canadians do! In fact, I always wondered if a bunch of Southerners moved to Canada after the War. I hear similarities with some Canadians and Southern speech- especially those from Western Canada, where the show takes place. Jack Bartlett has an almost drawl in his speech. I find it interesting how similar the culture is.

I don't know if it's just me, but the Canadian accent and the American accent sounds very similar if not identical to me, I can't tell the difference at all! Maybe it's just because I'm not American or Canadian, so their accents sounds exactly the same to me...sometimes when I watch a Canadian show, I often forget that it's a Canadian show and mistake it for an American show, because the accents sounds so much like the American accent.
I wouldn't say I'm very good with accents, but usually I can recognize the American, English, Irish, Asian, European, Aussie and Kiwi accents, because they are all very distinct and different from each other. But with the American and Canadian accents, I just cannot tell them apart.
