Estrogen level of these programs is over the top!!

Is it the objective of the 15 or so female writers for this program to develop characters that are so estrogen antagonistic that they piss off the audience? My male friend and myself are older, and watch on Netflix few episodes each evening. Because these female characters are so extremely immature, hormone driven and superficial on some episodes they are just piss us off. He does not use mvdb, but I will screen these before I watch many more! And for that Mallory, we have decided all the writers hate her; we know this by the character that you have developed.
Later, next time!

The only time I got slightly annoyed while watching Heartland was Lou's feminist talk (S9, Ep. 12), Jade's and Georgie's early episodes (acting irresponsible and uneducated) and Blair getting between Ty & Amy relationship. That's about it, I think.

I always liked the rest of the cast and when Mallory was written off the show, it was sad to see her go but at least they gave her a proper farewell. Val for many might seem like a bad mother but she was just looking out for the well-being of her daughter and trying to protect her. In the end, she realised that Caleb would have been a good fit for Ashley.

If Val was such a vile monster as some would paint her she'd have allowed to let her sadistic son do as he'd want. She isn't, she's kind and tries to be fair with friends and family.

I agree with you. I just started watching Heartland about four months ago. I'm currently almost done with Season 5. I enjoy good family shows. I've watched everything from "The Waltons" to "Little House on the Prairie" to some of today's shows like "When Calls the Heart."

My issues with the characters aren't so much that they're women but that they are characters who aren't very likable. "Extremely immature" is definitely appropriate, especially when talking about Lou, Mallory, and Amy. These are basically three spoiled brats who have the license to do whatever they want without any consequences or motives to change.

Lou is in her mid-late twenties, and she acts like a petulant child whenever she doesn't get her way. Since when is this type of behavior "okay?" She whines and pleads until Jack or someone eventually gives in. She is also extremely immature and insecure, always thinking the worst has happened. She is easily my least favorite character on the show.

Mallory is a young teenager who has free range to say whatever is on her mind. Occasionally, it's actually funny. However, her constant back-talking to Jack as well as her obvious lack of respect for any type of authority makes her out to be another spoiled brat. She can pretty much do whatever she wants, talk back as often as she likes, and there are no consequences for it.

Amy is someone who is obviously more comfortable around horses than she is around people. She gets after Ty for not opening up to her when she has the same problem herself. She also acts petulant, stubborn, and spoiled any time she doesn't get her way. She starts off as a 15/16 year old girl who is also given free reign to do whatever she wants. Her schoolwork suffers, and she's barely given any kind of discipline by Jack regarding it. She has trust issues and she's a true hypocrite as she gets angry with Ty for being attracted to another girl when she's attracted to another guy. She's very immature and naive.

Heartland is a show that lacks true depth. No one seems to have any real heart-to-heart conversations. Bad behavior is overlooked or even rewarded. I think this is a good show, but it's issues like these that keep it from being a great one. I'm not sure how much longer I will continue to watch it. It's consistently becoming more frustrating and less appealing, largely due to too many characters that I'm caring less and less about.
