Lou is ruining a good show

She is horrible.

I don't understand why guys like her. Yeah, her looks are okay but her personality sucks. She whines and cries and ALWAYS gets what she wants. I don't understand why the other characters bend over backward to please her.

And why in the season 9 finale were they all concerned about Lou doing something for herself and her being happy. Everything is always for Lou to be happy. Peter came back and told her everything she ever wanted to hear no matter how ridiculous it was and it still wasn't good enough for her. And having Georgie come to some realization that Lou should be happy was a writer's cop out. I don't know of any child that would say they don't want their parents to get back together unless it was an abusive relationship.

I hate what they did to Peter's character in season 9. Georgie had always loved Peter and was always closer to him but in season 9 her and Katie seemed to just forget about Peter and didn't seem to miss him or feel like they needed him anymore. They've just crapped all over Peter's character this season.

It wasn't crazy for Peter to have to move for his job but Lou treated him like it was crazy. She wouldn't leave Heartland. I know for the sake of the show and the storyline they couldn't have her leave but they treated Peter unfairly there. My mom moved with my dad several times due to his work. It's what families do. It's nothing new. But it was a deal breaker for Lou.

She is just a terrible person who only thinks about herself.

Lou is a control freak but she is a good mother and a good woman, Caleb with Lou would have made a rather interesting couple because of how entirely different the both of them were though at the same time, she had feelings for him and vice-versa.

If you love someone then you try to get used to their habits, as long as they're not violent or toxic. This is the great thing about the western world, each one can choose to live how they want and not be forced to follow one ideology.

P.S. I can see you're "Team Peter" but I just can't, he was rarely ever around and decided to put his job before his family even though he could have gotten a job locally. Peter wouldn't make as much money but on the bright side he'd be living with his family and he wouldn't be "living in the sky".

Peter didn't put his job before his family, he was just trying to provide for his family. IIRC (because it was so many years ago) the local job would've been under someone who would've been a nightmare to work for. When someone works for a person like that and they hate their job, it can put just as much or more stress on a marriage.

I don't know why the writers think that they have to keep everybody at Heartland. They could've let Peter and Lou move a couple of miles away and still be on the show plenty. One of Peter's biggest issues was not feeling like he was his own man because they were having to live in the already crowded Heartland house.

Same with Ty and Amy. Why can't the writers let them have that house that they liked a few seasons ago. They can still work at Heartland. It's a little ridiculous and far fetched that they would still live in the loft. It's a bit like in Full House when Jesse lived upstairs in the attic with his wife and two kids. It's a forced situation that doesn't really work.

Peter didn't get the chance to work for him, though.

there was one time when Peter was offered a really good job locally but he refused to take the job offer just because he didn't like the employer, and that tells me that Peter was more concerned about his pride than his own family. So what if he didn't like the employer? Many people hate their bosses and have to work jobs that they don't particularly like, but they still manage to develop a good working relationship with their bosses. I dislike my boss too, I think he is an arrogant, rude and self-absorbed pig, but we are both professional enough to put aside our personal dislike for each other for the sake of our work.
But Peter was more concerned about his own pride and ego than being a responsible father...he acted like a juvenile who didn't want to do something just because he didn't like the teacher...in reality, many people hate their bosses or don't like their work but they're still capable of being mature and professional about it and suck it up. And Peter should've suck it up like a man and be professional about it and not care so much about his pride.

And Hudson may be a small town but I'm sure there were plenty of other work Peter could find in the town or closer to home...if not then he could've worked as a co-owner at Molly's and be responsible for the business side of things. But because Peter came from such a different world, he is more of a big city person who likes to work in the corporate business, jobs that he considers "real jobs"...again, he prioritizes his pride above everything else. He was unwilling to sacrifice his pride and ego for his own family, he was only willing to work corporate jobs that takes him far away from his family.

On Season 10 Lou hasn't appeared a whole lot but she has become kind of annoying as she keeps on bringing up the dating life of hers and if she should or shouldn't take that step for her business.

Lou's like 36 years old and acts like a 20 year old.

Yes. Lou is one of those people that if there's no drama in her life, she will create drama out of nothing.

reply

I have to agree with you. I've only watched through the 7th Season, and I'm done with the show.

Lou is one of the most insecure characters I've ever come across in over 40 years of television. The writers just don't give us enough to make her really likable. Everything is about her. She is incredibly immature as she demands constant attention by her family and friends. I'm amazed at the number of story-lines where Lou is upset because she's not given credit/attention for something. She is so petty. I really don't know how someone like Peter puts up with her. I actually feel for the guy. Yes, he's away a lot, and that is something that puts a strain on any relationship, and yet when Lou goes off on her book tour, she doesn't see the hypocrisy of it, nor appreciate how Peter willingly steps up to allow her to do this.

What annoys me even more is how the family puts up with it. Nobody ever says anything or stands up to her. The few times someone did, nothing was resolved, and she was allowed to continue her behavior. This is true of Amy, Mallory, and Tim. The writers are just lacking in realistic development of their characters.

Your post and Lou in Season 10 gave me a different perspective of the character. Peter did really try to make her happy, be a good open-minded and relaxed father yet with Lou she'd leave him without room to breathe.

Plus, it's not like the BnB and the café couldn't function with her around, it obviously can as there's the internet, family and most important of all - Tim. It's thanks to Tim she even owns Maggie's.

Caleb seemed like he could genuinely change Lou into becoming a better person but you know, it's too late.

Peter only wanted Lou back when he realized she was done, it was a last Ditch effort, I feel she realized he just wants what he can't have. I mean, she has proven this whole last season that she doesn't need to be there. She has been off to new York for 6 out of 9 episodes. I think Lou is being selfish, esp to Jack and Lisa who don't need to raise her kids, and why are the kids not automatically sent to their father when Lou is away, isn't it law that the father is the first call when the mother is away?

reply

isn't it law that the father is the first call when the mother is away?

Usually. That is, if the mother or father are capable of taking care of their children which both of them are. Neither of them are deadbeat parents so that's something the law has nothing to worry.

reply

But most divorce/separation agreements state the other parent is the first call when it comes to watching the children. Peter maybe wanted the kids for the sumner, but not when Lou is away for 3 weeks in new york? Doesn't make sense. I could see an agreement with Georgie staying, but not the Katie, she is still too young to not have her parent there, she hasn't started kindergarten until the last episode when Lou finally came back, (which in itself was weied, mid year?)

Like I said, I could see an agreement with georgie (she is old enough to decide), but not katie.

Katie has been mainly taken care of by her grandparents Jack and Lisa...they have mostly been taking care of her anyway, and they've mainly been the ones watching over Georgie too, Lou is just too irresponsible as a parent, like Peter.
