2 of the soldiers stay and guard the goat herders. The other 2....hike up to an area where they can radio for help.Then....the 4 of them keep the goat herders in their custody until the chopper arrives. Then....let them go.

Good concepts. Not sure what variables or limitations may have played into that possibility. Either way, they may have assumed that the Taliban would have come looking for them shortly anyhow. Tough spot.
