Seemed like they really didn't have the best comms gear or backup suppor

By all indications, those guys were on a really high priority, critical mission. But once the guys were on the ground it seemed like the guys at the base just sort of forgot about them and didn't have well thought out and manned resources to sprint in there to whip ass if things went south. I mean not having Apache support for such a crucial mission just seems irresponsible and down right negligent. And how is it possible that in these modern times Seals don't have foolproof satellite communications?!?

About the Apaches, they did have them on call for support if needed. The problem was that before the SEAL mission went to hell, another unit under fire needed them and they were ordered there instead.

John Plaster (Former SOG SpecOps vet) was flying 'Covey' later in his war-covey's are light aircraft that cover & coordination support & pick up for SOG teams on the ground operating on the Ho Chi Minh trail--and on one occasion he has two teams on the ground who got into a jam...he had to decide which team got left 'high & dry' while he struggled to save the other...not a comfortable situation.

Well back in -05, Afghanistan was "a forgotten war". Most of US resources were in Iraq.

Modern days or not, communications still sucks when you are in a focking mountain.

Not with a satellite phone though, it sends signals upwards. So that was curious.
