Who refers to anyone as a 'general officer' in the US military?
I would and have as I have served in the U.S. military (USMC).
Officer ranks in the U.S. military are divided into three grades:
Company Grade2nd Lieutenant
1st Lieutenant
Captain
Field GradeMajor
Lieutenant Colonel
Colonel
General GradeBrigadier General
Major General
Lieutenant General
General
Referring to an officer as a "General Officer" is simply saying that the officer was one of the General Grade ranks, since all of them have "General" in their title. There is nothing odd in using the term "General Officer" in that context.
