It would surprise me if they didn't kill him
My guess is that they'll wipe out Holland and replace him with Miles Morales.
shareMy guess is that they'll wipe out Holland and replace him with Miles Morales.
shareI've been thinking about the same thing a little, but kind of doubt it since they haven't introduced Morales yet. If we should happen to see Miles early in this movie, though, you can bet that MCU Peter Parker is a goner!
shareWell, if it's not this movie, it'll be sometime soon. Holland's comments about retiring from the role after this one, several cast members saying things like, "I don't know if there will be another one..." that's usually industry NDA speak for "It's over; probably somebody dies."
Frankly, the vibe I've always had is that they want to introduce Peter, kill him, and then replace him with Miles just because it's one of the more interesting and touching storylines that exist in (Ultimate) Marvel. To me, the more interesting storyline has always been that Peter struggles as a person, a nerd and outcast, then becomes a family man, and despite being a superhero, he gets to mostly experience life the way the "rest of us" do - hardship and reward. That's way more interesting to me than, "We killed one of the cornerstones of the company and here's a new guy to take up the mantle."
I feel the same way about 616 Peter Parker, to be honest the character has been dead to me since the Once More Day / Brand New Day nonsense. I'm a long time Marvel fan but never got into the Ultimate Universe. I do know a bit of Ultimate history, though. The death of Spider-man / intro of Mile Morales would keep things interesting in the MCU.
I wonder if either the Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield Spider-man might get stuck in the MCU and take on the alter ego Ben Reilly / The Scarlet Spider?
I'd love to watch a Logan-type movie about aging Peter and his relationship. I don't want/need a tragic ending or anything (I'm not sure I want to watch Spider-man get divorced, for instance), but just a more mature family drama blended with superhero action. Weird combo, I know, but I think they could make it work.
It'd be cool to have another Spidey get stuck in the MCU and the next three films are (partially, anyway) about getting back there. I'd be in for Toby. Garfield...maybe, maybe-not.
I'm of a completely opposite thought. The marriage to Mary Jane was the worst thing to ever happen to Spider-Man, and while Brand New Day didn't make sense in terms of how they undid it, it was for the best that they did undo it.
You haven't read Ultimate Spider-Man, so I don't know what you'd make of it, but I think it is by far the best Spider-Man series/collection of stories of the entire history of the hero. I am a huge fun of the Ditko run, and that is a close second, but USM was so perfectly written. It had the advantage of existing in an era where writers weren't forced to condense stories into a single issue, so Bendis was able to draw out stories and characters in a manner the early writers couldn't, but beyond that, it's as close to perfect as a Spider-Man comic can be.
I couldn't disagree more. I liked them being married and frankly I think it's immoral to have Spider-Man make a deal with a demon from Hell. I will never ever understand Marvel acting like that was perfectly okay. Frankly you and the heads of Marvel should have just been content reading older Spider-Man comics from before they were married. I had read some comics after that but they aren't as good as what came before. I have quit reading them entirely now.
And frankly I never cared for the Ultimate Universe. I prefer Peter to be an adult. It doesn't help though the writers of Ultimate did terrible messed up things with the other characters. I can't get behind Cannibal Hulk, Cannibal Blob, Incestual Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, or Wolverine having an affair with Magneto's wife.
I believe we've had this same exchange before. I think Peter Parker the high school/college student makes for a nice change of pace from all the other adult superheroes. He was the one of very few kids playing at an adult's game. And while much of the Ultimate Universe was hit or miss, Ultimate Spider-Man specifically is a masterpiece in my eyes. The blend of comedy and drama on display there is rare, and I've never seen it sustained over 150+ issues.
I agree that the method of extricating Spider-Man from his marriage rang hollow. I understand he loves his Aunt May, but everyone's time must come. I don't think any real life person, especially one with Peter's character, would trade away their wife and future, and potentially children, to save an elderly relative, no matter how important that relative is to him. But regardless of the execution, the end result in my mind was a win, because Spider-Man makes no sense to me as a family man.
Frankly you and all Marvel executives are stuck in the past. 616 Peter hasn't been in college in 40 years!
shareIt’s most likely to happen. But I have my perfect send off.
Dr Strange tells him there is a way he can have Tony Stark Back traveling in time and staying there.
And we see him living as Tony’s adoptive son with Morgan and Pepper.
And the film ends teasing us Miles.
My perfect ending would be very unlikely since we would need RDJ for it, but just dreaming imagine if they got him just for a brief cameo to give Peter a happy ending.
I want this Peter so bad to get his happy ending with whom was his father figure in the MCU.
So in the ending scene we see Peter living happily with Tony, Pepper and Morgan as a family.
Post credits scene We are introduced to Miles Morales.
That way Peter is out of the MCU for good and give closure that : this Peter Parker is not the Parker of the comics but an alternate version who was able to have his happy ending.
Another idea for my perfect happy ending is reviving Tony. dr strange saying he found a way to revive Tony he does it successfully. Peter decides to do an early retirement and just be Tony’s Stark kid.
Both ofcourse are retired for good and the film ends giving us Miles.
That would be a cool way to do it, and a good deal cleverer than simply wiping him out, but I think they'll go for the big, emotional sendoff and everybody will talk for months about how much it made them cry.
shareYes it has become a trend to kill our main heroes who need to be send off. But I’m with everyone that this Peter so different from the comics needs closure and be gone.
With IronMan was easy to deal with him being so different to the comics because he wasn’t well known before the first IronMan film and RDJ was the first to portray the character on the big screen and so far only IronMan on the big screen.
but Peter is very well known and fans of the character are kind of struggling with this more happy Peter Parker so close to Stark.
And it doesn’t help he ain’t the first SpiderMan on the big screen so yeah I want him to get a nice send off and will get Miles who ain’t that big yet and The MCU can do whatever they want with him and fans won’t scream he ain’t like in the comics or like Tobey McGuire. Miles wouldn’t have a shadow behind him.
I wished he had a happy ending instead of killing him but I doubt it
As a lifelong fan of Spider-Man, I beg to differ. The MCU Spider-Man is the first cinematic version of the character that mirrors the comics. Granted, with almost 60 years of history, there have been many versions of Spider-Man, but Holland's portrayal aligns with the most standard version of the character from the comics. It's been a dream come true to finally see the Ditko/Romita/Bendis comics come to life on the big screen, and it's bittersweet knowing this is probably the final film of the series.
shareMmmhh really?
I’ve never read the comics but read in so many YouTube comments how this SpiderMan is not the one created by Stan Lee and Ditko but something closer to ultimates SpiderMan and something invented by the MCU writers.
I like Tom Holland SpiderMan but his closeness with Tony has me thinking that this Peter shouldn’t have continued without Tony. So I really want him to find a way to be with Tony for good. Maybe Doing what Steve did to be with Peggy and give Peter Parker closure.
I definitely don't think Peter ending up with Tony Stark makes any kind of sense. He's in love with MJ. Tony was a sort of role model/father figure, but I think a happy ending is he and MJ ride off together in the sunset. If he dies, he'll die protecting her.
Comics-wise, the films are a blend of Ditko/Romita and the Bendis Ultimate, which are hands down my two favorite eras for the character. It is a little closer to the Ditko stories, but definitely the closest to the comics of any of the three franchises so far.
Okay I’ll believe you he is accurate to the comics. Probably people just use the excuse of not being accurate to the comics because people prefer In General adult super heroes and have a hard time with a younger one.
It makes sense you say he is accurate to the ultimates take on the character because I’ve read a lot how many of the characters are closer the ultimates take on them than 616.
Especially IronMan’s origins. So the whole MCU is a blend of 616/Ultimates though I’ve heard the MCU has officially its own earth in the marvel universe which is 1.999999 or something like that.
Yes MJ is Peter’s love interest but Tony has become a pivotal person on his life that I can see him giving up his world to be with him. He loves MJ but nót like Tobey SpiderMan loved Mary Jane or Andrew loved Gwen Stacy.
I feel like his father figure this time is much more important than any love Interest to the point of going to another universe to be with him.
I could see Peter loosing May and Happy and for that Reason going to a timeline where he can live with Tony as his son.
Who's to say which fictional character loved which other fictional character more, but the romantic connection between Holland's Parker and MJ is far more developed, and believable, than either of the two previous love stories. The idea that he'd give up MJ just to kick it with Tony Stark in an alternate universe seems far-fetched.
shareMmm not so much to me. I feel like there is very little chemistry between Tom and Zendalla. For me she is just another crush like Liz Toomes.
And actually homecoming and the ending of endgame makes me feel like this Peter loves Tony more than any love interest.
Don’t think comic books think how Disney( the company which bought Marvel) recently has focused more on other type of relationships over romance.
How the most important relationship in frozen was Elsa with Anna, how in Maleficent it’s the motherly love which broke the spell and tell me if it doesn’t make sense that Peter would do anything to be with Tony Stark.
Who knows? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we're both wrong and they won't kill anybody, they'll just open up more and more multiverse stuff. Keep your fingers crossed.
