Which is scarier - virus or possession?

I think REC was far scarier than Quarantine, but then again, because I saw that one first, I knew what to expect with the remake.

But I also think there's something scarier about demonic possession than a virus.

Kind of arbitrary for me, both equally scary; but a virus makes more sense than possession spreading through saliva.

Like I wrote in another post, it depends on the type of film.

A "normal-looking" film like 28 Days Later makes more sense with a rabies storyline.

But Rec, Paranormal and The Last Exorcism work better with possession...
... the realistic camera work and claustrophobia make the supernatural more believable.

Have to say virus,

since viral is feasable.

Demonic possession is fanciful bull$#!t.

Not saying I am not entertained by demonic possession flicks.

The Exorcist is one of my fave all time movies.

You asked which I would find more scary.

I would be more scared of something that could actually happen.

If someone wants to state,

" look at all the exorcisms the catholic church... yada yada yada"

I would say its a damn shame that mentally ill people should

be put through the rigors of some half assed religious ritual.

Virus. Could happen. Very scary stuff.

"Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that"

Virus - it's more realistic. Nevertheless, demonic possession looks pretty cool in many movies.

reply

Weirdly enough, as a non-believer, I find possessions scarier. Maybe because it's more out of our control.

Don't mistake hate speech for free speech. Remember, hate speech kills!

Virus. Our natural fear being infected with a deadly disease, plus the horror of being eaten by an animal that cannot be reasoned with, even worse since that animal is another human being. It's unlikely but at least it is possible.

Demonic possession is so silly that even the best movies (The Exorcist) aren't entertaining for me (sadly).
