Great sequel until the stupid surprise ending

I thought it might be to keep them fed and away from the local town or his house/property or something like that. But that doesn't really help as surely it would be easier to tell everyone what was in the caves and then just dynamite the heck out of the tunnels and kill the crawlers or trap them in the cave.

Maybe there's some sort of arrangement with the crawlers. :)

Yes, I didn't think the ending made much sense. I thought maybe he was a crazy, Texas Chainsaw Massacre type character and that's why he wanted to feed people to the creatures. What better way to become a murderer? It would be so easy to hide your crimes. But I still think it should've just ended with her leaving the cave on a happy note.
