In Real Life..Abbie Hoffman Killed Himself
Why?
shareHe suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder, what was then called manic-depression, sad to say.
shareHe couldn't get used to the eighties.
shareHoffman probably had an epiphany and realized the truth about the utterly destructive garbage he had stood for all his life.
shareAnd what do you stand for? I would venture to say probably cops and military and all things things rightwing and reactionary.
shareYeah. How else are you going to maintain law and order? You want anarchy and chaos and an unlivable society? Support crap ideology like Hoffman did and it will happen.
shareFor those to whom "law and order" is holy writ, concepts of personal growth & freedom, justice & equality for everyone, and a more humane vision of life that doesn't ravage the planet & the individual soul, are all meaningless at best & dangerous at worst. Sad to say. May the pendulum swing back to the side of brotherhood & sisterhood, peace & harmony, soon!
shareAmen. I personally will be glad when that tired Bush-era cliche 'Thank You For Your Service" (used to squash any true antiwar sentiment) becomes bad manners to use.
shareLet me second your "Amen!"
For anyone who lived through those years, the current one-dimensional caricature of the 1960s makes me realize just how little history of the times is taught today. And that's a pity, because the spirit that motivated so many idealistic people then needs to be both honored & revived now.
