Ariel is gross in this remake

I'm watching this, and the way Ariel comes across is totally horrible compared to Lori Singer's portrayal. She's so unlikeable in this one - she doesn't seem to possess any vulnerability, and is just arrogant - all her 'antics' seem to be purely about impressing boys, whereas in the original you got the impression she was dealing with things internally and didn't really care what anyone thought of her.

I could totally get why someone would fall for Lori Singer's character, but this girl is so up her own hole she's tonguing the inside of what there is of her brains. It's ruining it for me, because it wouldn't be SO bad if the actress managed to act rather than coming across like a completely straightforward male appendage.

She's no Lori Singer, but she was one of the redeeming qualities of this movie.

She did get a bit better as it went on. All in all though, it was a terrible movie with a terrible cast, I feel a bit sick with myself that I watched it. I hope no one I know ever finds out.

I thought Miles Teller was the only redeeming quality of this movie.

Yeah she was a nasty whore.

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

I know it's been years but I TOTALLY agree with your opinion of her character in this. Way too much "Look at me, look at me!"

Really ruined it for me. I still love the original more but this one was ok.

The Chuck in this one was so damn hott too! Yum!!!

PArt of the reason for that was explained in her retorts to Dennis Quaid in the "I have been so lost" dialogue... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaSRvXS85KI

Yeah, well... Hough is a great dancer and is very pretty, but she's no actress. But really, there were no acting standouts in this version, which is very very fortunate for Hough.

Thought she was a very good dancer and a decent actress, she was pretty good in "Safe Haven."

True, Miles Teller was probably the strongest actor, but even he was really playing up the "country boy" stereotype.
