A sequel to Marvel's least favorite Shero featuring Marvels least popular Disney+ character, released with the MCU on a sharp downward trajectory.

Could it break the record for the biggest Box office drop for a sequel? I think so. I might have to do some research to check it out. I should specify first sequels. I am sure there are some part 4 or 5s out there with basically zero box office.

Whereas Black Panther has the Chadwick Bosemen thing going for it, and is so far still the only Black Marvel (MCU) superhero with a solo movie, at this point we have already had Black Widow and a bunch of Disney+ series, and everyone knows that the first movie sucked and only made bucks because it was sandwhiched between the two Avengers movies at the absoulte peak of interest in the MCU.

There is still a hardcore Marvel base that will eat up whatever scraps of shit the MCU throws at them, so we are probably talking about a baseline of $400m.

Can anyone seee it going lower than that?

wells it competing with Dune Part 2 which is gonna have larger female presence than the previous film yeah The Florence Pugh Fanbase is gonna be there along with Zendaya and Chalamet Bases yeah its gonna overtake The Marvels in November

I imagine you are joking, but if you are serious, that's a tall order. It's rare for any film to bring in a billion at the box office. Only 51 films have ever done that. Add to that the fact that Captain Marvel earned $1.1 billion, and sequels typically earn less than the original, and a billion is anything but easy. Finally, bear in mind that in a post-Covid world theater attendance is down significantly. I think $700-$800 million is far more likely the ceiling, unless something outside of the film generates unusually high ticket sales, a la the Top Gun or Avatar sequels.

Think it might do 700m at most. I can't see it doing more. the first one did crazy 1.1b as came out in the aftermath of Avengers Infinity War and audiences were hyped bc of the end scene of Nick Fury paging Cap Marvel , and bc it was like a 90s set prequel to The Avengers/Nick Fury and Guardians. Whereas this is coming off back of disappointing Phase 4 (aside Spiderman NWH/Dr Strange 2) and Phase 5 (Antman 3), it requires knowledge of the TV shows (Wanda, Ms Marvel) which casual fans might not have bothered with , and Captain Marvel/Brie Larson looks like a costar in her own sequel,

It depends on how good the movie is at the end of the day. Thor 4, Black Panther 2, and Ant-man 3 all made less then their predecessors. Other than Spider-man, only Doctor Strange 2 made more than the previous movie, probably on the back of Spider-man 3nbeing a huge hit and Doctor Strange being such a pivotal character in Infiinity War.

If it's bad, it could make Ant-man numbers. If it's good, probably Black Panther numbers.

Well, let's see. The first Captain Marvel film is fantastic, as evidenced by its critical and audience scores, as well its box office. You can pretend otherwise, or blame its release date, but that's wishful thinking on your part. Throw in characters from two hugely popular Disney+ shows, and you have a recipe for a great film. Trailers can be deceiving, and for all we know it's a terrible film, but the trailer is among the best of any the MCU has presented thus far.

Of course, you couch your hatred by giving a baseline of $400 million, as if that is the mark of some sort of failure. $400 million is a solid showing for a movie in the post-Covid era, especially a sequel. $500 million and up is an unmitigated success for nearly any film, especially one starring a lesser-known superhero who has to rely on more than name recognition to draw an audience.

Anything under $400 million is evidence that something went wrong.

$400-600 million is a successful film.

$700 million+ is a major success.

With a $500m opening debut, this movie will easily make my prediction.

Both "The flash" and Indy 5 had stronger openings and with lower box office results, "The flash" finished at $270m.

So I'd say you are very optimistic.
