Didn't do it for me
I had high expectations for this film and watched it for the first time last night - haven't read the book. The acting was great as I knew it would be and the imagery was probably as good as it could get, but something was still missing. I didn't get ignited feelings like I do for most love stories maybe because she kept pushing him away and I never got a clear sense that she even liked him that much until the last twenty minutes.
The dialogue seemed too childish for this type of plot like there could have been more anger or passion, but the screenwriter just kept pulling it back.
The plot was also annoyingly repetitive. Someone gets hurt (the white horse, Rosie, Camel), Jacob is sad, but there wasn't resolution except with the white horse at the beginning. I know this may be the desired pattern to represent August continually hurting what Jacob cares about, but four examples was more than enough or maybe I'm missing something.
