Was the elephant in the film really abused?

Now I understand in the actual film it wasn't, that was fake. I'm talking about behind the scenes.

Is this really true? I mean I honestly wouldn't doubt it considering how some people are now a days, but it still makes me sad.

I enjoyed this film before I heard about that.

IMHO any elephant not in the wild with its social group is being abused.

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.

The elephants real handler is shown in many scenes where the elephant is doing tricks, with bull hook in hand
