They took a controversial iffy book and made it into a A+ film. This is the best version of Hollywood

So much weird, toxic and cringy stuff was erased from the story completely.

No one in this film is excusing Ryle for his abusive behaviour as if he has a "side to him that he just can't control because of his dark past, you need to be understanding". The characters explain what Ryle is, but in no way excuse it.

Lily doesn't display off-putting behaviour like wittily thinking Ryle is just so hot in scrubs after he freakin attacked her. Or her freakin celebrating being pregnant at the same time as Allysa, instead of being horrified that she's pregnant with an abuser's baby.

Yet at the same time, it kept all the things from the book that makes you enjoy these characters. Their environment, their charm, their distinct personalities......it's all here.

Performances were great, the direction was great, the writing was on point. All the plot twist hit like a ton of bricks.

I love it when pros in the movie industry take dodgy things that became popular and make the BEST version of it.

I was bored. Walked out right when the second love interest arrived.

was it woke with white man bad trope?

reply

Did the white man do something? It was clearly the girl who was immediately ready to cheat on someone the second an old flame came back.

reply

sounds about right. but its ok if women cheat. men are scum for having feelings...

reply

They also took out the gape maneuvers.

reply

Why no naked boobies?

reply

Possibly cuz of the PG13 rating. The days where you could see Kate Winslet's rack for a movie NOT rated R had already been long gone my friend.

reply

I liked it all up until the end. The ending was utter bullshit

reply

What was wrong with the end?

reply

I just thought her husband deserved another chance.

reply

Hmm, Im not so sure about that
Didn't he rape her, hit her, and push her down the stairs?
