It seems like the mother and father still never truly got over each other

I feel like when the father got remarried to Annie, it seems like Annie loves him more than he loves her. Like when he's playing his song to her parents, she's looking at him the whole time and he's hardly looking at her. Like in general, he seems neutral to her. And the father still talks about the mother at the end like he's bothered she wasn't patient enough to be this account guy that he becomes at the end. And you can tell the mother still kinda wants him since she actually said at the party "I'm not your only wife here" even though she's his ex-wife. Like she wishes the guy he became she could have.
