The game of golf (around 30 minutes into the film)

It is so true that men (I cannot speak for women) praise their new partners kids and belittle their own children. I'm guilty of it myself. Looking back it's a way of trying to rush a bond whereas really all it does is make your own child feel left out and your partners child feel awkward. There are so many scenes in this film that resonate with me personally, that's why I love it and at the same time cringe inwardly. Masterpiece.

There's a lot of human nature on display in this film, and it ain't always pretty. Thanks for pointing out this prime example of how a seemingly innocent 'pointless' scene is actually a drama being played out to its logical conclusion.
