To the ones who read the book (I did)

I'm curious about how you pictured the characters when reading, so what would your ideal cast be? For me Eva Mendes is right as Teresa, I had trouble thinking of an actress that could portray her and I think Eva is a good choice. I'm thinking about Pati O'Farrell too... somebody like Charlize Theron maybe? with short hair... And the other two already cast are quite different from what I imagined.

I just hope this adapatation of Perez-Reverte's novel is much better than the horrendous movie version of Club Dumas (the 9th Gate with Johnny Depp).

But yes, I can Eva in this role.

reply

Eva Mendes looks alot like the real Teresa dood. ALOT

I can see Eva as Teresa. The way she was described in the book I actually thought of Eva Mendes when I read it. But Santiago I don't know if I see Josh as him. I can't remember but was Santiago a marine in the book?

Batman: Let her go.
The Joker: Oooh. Very poor choice of words.

he drove a power boat, santiago I mean, as for eva mendez as teresa yeah I can totally picture her for the role althoug I could also see the girl from without a trace roselyn sanchez, she would have been a GREAT teresa but eva is good and I really like the girl, funny, very funny, just hope that the screenplay writer is up for the callenge.

reply

roselyn sanchez comes very close to how I pictured her when reading the book.

I just finished reading the book, and the whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking, "this would make a great movie." Especially with the ending. So I thought I'd look on here and see if there was a script in the works, but I didn't know it would be this far along. I'm having a really difficult time imagining Josh Hartnett as Santiago though. Ben Kingsley I can forgive because I'm sure he'll adapt the character (who I think was supposed to be tall and quite burly-looking) to suit himself. I want to know who's going to play Pote though. He ended up being one of my favorite characters.

But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say 'S***!, it's raining!'

Production has stopped due to threats made to the director.

I have also read the book and I hope they do the book jutice. As for the casting, I am very disappointed they chose Eva Mendez. I dont feel she is a good enough actor to pull this role off. She only does well playing "the hot chick" as for something more intense, I don't like her. Very unbelieveable. I would have liked to see an un known actor in the role, since I cant seem to think of any other actor to fill Teresa Mendozas shoes. If anything I think Salma Hayek would be a wonderful choice, but again I think her age puts her at a disadvantage. This is of course a story of a girl becoming a woman in the most unordinary circumstance. I really am curious to see the movie, and hopefully I'll be pleasantly suprised.

Kash.

Agree... Eva Mendes is a blockbuster actress, nothing more, i was hoping this movie to be something more, a movie to think, almodovar style.
Salma Hayek, Roselyn Sanchez... and of course, Penelope Cruz, are better choices.
And pretty much the same for Josh Hartnett, i can´t see him as Santiago at all, and he is not that good as an actor, to create a character that may not fit the book but still be a good addition to the movie. Ben Kingsley in the other hand doesn't have the look i imagined for Oleg Yasikov but anyway we know he will make a good job.

valenting86 - don't worry, the project is off.

I agree with you re casting. I think Maria Catalina Sandino (Mary Full of Grace) would be perfect or Mia Maestro. Not Eva Mendes. I think they are turning this into a telenovela with Kate Del Castillo. Good idea, but still would like to see a movie.

reply

I only read a couple chapters of the book and that was years ago. I don't really remember what Teresa was supposed to look like. I remember her being described as not classically beautiful but very striking and memorable. But regardless, I also don't think Eva Mendez has the acting ability to pull off such a complex character.

Now that the show is out, I'm really glad Eva didn't get cast. I'm a little unsure about Alice Braga but I do think she's a much better actress overall.

If this were made into a movie, I can see Penelope Cruz doing a good job as Teresa, especially appearance-wise.

Angelina Jolie; Eva Mendes; Najwa Nimri; Marion Cottilard; Ariadne Gil; Paz Vega or Catalina Sandino Moreno for starters... and in that order.
