La Reyna del Sur

If anyone is interested in watching the original 'telenovla,' aka 'narco-novela' - the 63 episode series is on Netflix, with subtitles.

Teresa Mendoza is played by Kate del Castillo, the actress who connected Sean Penn with El Chapo.

I'd be interested to see what people think of La Reyna del Sur, compared to The Queen of the South.

Below you will find links to YouTube videos that show excerpts from the show, just to give you an idea of what the original show looks like, compared to this newer version.

This first video is by Los Cuates de Sinaloa, it shows chronological scenes from the show. It even shows "El Guero" being shot down, something the english show didn't. Los Cuates de Sinaloa also sing the song for the show. Ignore the music, as I'm sure most won't like it, as it's a traditional Mexican corrido, or 'narco-ballads. A side-note, Los Cuates de Sinaloa also sing the corrido "Negro y Azul" aka "El Corrido de Heisenberg" from the show Breaking Bad.

This video shows a lot more scenes then the previous one, but they added too many effects. This is also a newer song version.

This was the Telemundo trailer for the show, with English subtitles.

If anyone is interested, this video is the original song by the original group that first released it. I think their version of Teresa Mendoza is more age appropriate for the role.

Is it less boring than what we're seeing right now then I'd be interested? If not... no thanks.

<edit> Looked at the score and it seems like it probably is a lot better than this. I might need to take a look at an episode.

I may give it a try, but I like really like this version.

I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ-Gandhi

i personally like this version as well. it looks like it is fairly true to its mexican origins, and doesn't seem like it has been overly diluted for american audiences. for example, the occasional use of spanish words and subtitles.

La Reina Del Sur is better. I'm watching this new one too, but seriously Kate Del Castillo plays a better Teresa.

OK, it's not just me. I saw the title and thought, "Did they remake La Reina de Sur?" Having been in a Spanish speaking country around the time La Reina de Sur came out, it was the show that everyone made sure they were home to watch it. I'm talking about rushing home and eyes glued to their TV screen until it was over.

I'm not a big telenovela fan, but it was the one show that I wish that I could have watched, but back then my Spanish wasn't the best and I got lost in translation. There weren't any subtitles. But, thanks I definitely need to check it out on Netflix.

I don't know how this show is, but I can tell you that people loved La Reina de Sur.
