Thin Ice: Not Based on a Jesse Stone Novel!

I was so frustrated with the ending of the movie last night that I called my librarian to order a copy of the book to be sent to my local library. I just couldn't believe that the book ended with such a dangling string... And such sadness... Her husband is a Jesse Stone fan so she took quite a bit of time with me and lo and behold, the movie "Jesse Stone: Thin Ice" is NOT based on one of the Robert Parker novels, just his characters!
The "Story" was developed by three people, one of which included Tom Selleck and one of which actually wrote the script.

As I mentioned, not a lot of happiness in "Thin Ice." And the question of "What happens to Jesse's job" was never solved. The next Jesse Stone movie that they are currently working on is called "No Remorse" so I can just guess what happens... So why couldn't they just have finished the WHOLE plot in "Thin Ice"? They could have removed the very thin subplot about Jesse's friend being shot and the local member of the mob's lead just to finish out the WHOLE PLOT last night. I am frustrated!
