Man, this is baffling to me.I NEVER can't understand T.V. shows. Several things.
Why did the bald guy shoot the fellow cop (and Selleck)? What does this have to do with teenage prostitution? Why did the "victim" cop not want Selleck to pursue this investigation? How was boxing ring guy connected to this?
The guy at the boxing ring was in a previous Jesse Stone movie and is **Paradise's only person that Jesse knows locally who is connected to the mob.**
He gives Jesse 3 names, one of which is the guy who shot the state police official.
We all learned last night that this mob guy is more connected with prostitution than he had ever owned up to before...
(One of the previous Jesse Stones was about a girl who was killed because of that connection...)
I believe the state police official didn't want his friend Jesse to get involved in it because Jesse was supposed to remain in his purview of the little town of which he was Sheriff, the little town called "Paradise." The "Board" who had hired him was already giving him trouble because he had been caught "going out of his purview" even though 1.)nothing much was going on in town to make his job very satisfying or the people of Paradise jeopardized; the local police just gave out a lot of parking tickets and tickets for going past a local stop sign because it was covered by a tree; 2.) Stone had a drinking problem which *required* a satisfying case to solve for him to remain sober; he remained sober when working on a case "because it would be unprofessional to drink" under such circumstances and 3.) His talents that he had gained in California gave him very special police skills that could have been used. Certain people on the Board already have a grudge against him.
